Andy Sernovitz: Where Are the Credit Unions?

Andy Sernovitz: Where Are the Credit Unions?: "Did you know this?

1. Voluntary Membership Credit unions are voluntary, cooperative organizations, offering services to people willing to accept the responsibilities and benefits of membership, without gender, social, racial, political or religious discrimination.

2. Democratic Member Control
Cooperatives are democratic organizations owned and controlled by their members, one member one vote, with equal opportunity for participation in setting policies and making decisions.

3. Members' Economic Participation
Members are the owners. As such they contribute to, and democratically control, the capital of the cooperative. This benefits members in proportion to the transactions with the cooperative rather than on the capital invested.

4. Autonomy and Independence
Cooperatives are autonomous, self-help organizations controlled by their members. If the cooperative enters into agreements with other organizations or raises capital from external sources, it is done so based on terms that ensure democratic control by the member and maintains the cooperative autonomy."

If teachers got merit pay like Wall Street...

if the same standard were used for giving out ''merit pay'' to teachers as Washington just did for Wall Street, then the teachers would have to make a third of their class stupider, kill a third, and not be able to account for the whereabouts of the last third. And they'd get millions of dollars in "merit pay" for doing it.

Pledge of Allegiance

I finally found the pledge of allegiance as recited by Bongo of life in hell fame and I thought I'd share it with anyone that might read this worthless blog. I figure it this way, if I have to stand and pledge allegiance to a piece of cloth because of social pressure at least now I have something that makes me laugh while I mutter with the rest of the 'bots.

"I plead alignment to the flakes
of the untitled snakes of a merry cow
and to the Republicans
for which they scam

underpants
with licorice
and jugs of wine

Beware of the Obama hype. What 'change' in America really means :: www.uruknet.info :: informazione dall'Iraq occupato :: news from occupied Iraq :: - it

"Yes, Obama’s election is historic, a symbol of great change to many. But it is equally true that the American elite has grown adept at using the black middle and management class. The courageous Martin Luther King recognised this when he linked the human rights of black Americans with the human rights of the Vietnamese, then being slaughtered by a liberal Democratic administration. And he was shot.

In striking contrast, a young black major serving in Vietnam, Colin Powell, was used to 'investigate' and whitewash the infamous My Lai massacre."

Palin's great because she gave me money.

O.K. here it is. I like Palin as a governor because she gave my family $4800.00 in additional rebates on the taxes the state collected on the oil that the f*&king oil companies made in obscene profits this year.

Yeah it's a drag that the rest of the country doesn't get a rebate on the mineral resources that are extracted from their states, but if you really don't like it... get up stand up!

You have no one to blame but your own suck up to the illusion that you might be a rich puke someday too.

" When I make a million dollars a year I don't want to have to pay 50% of my income to taxes."

Of course you don't you idiot! That's why millionaires hire accountants... THE LOOP HOLES!!!!

But I digress, Palin as a v.p. is insane. Dan Quayle would've made three times the potential president that Caribou Barbie would make.

And I say that as someone that wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating crackers... even if it was her dog.

Dissident Voice : Fernando Lugo Presidency Brings Hope in Paraguay:

"That night I went to the free concert in front of the National Palace. The high point was the arrival of Chavez and Lugo, who took seats in the audience and eventually took the stage, not with speeches, but with poetry recitals and songs.

Chavez, of course, went first, reciting a long poem to Bolivar, “Por aqui
pasa,” by Venezuelan Alberto Torrealba. Chavez was accompanied by the quintet of Venezuelan singer and member of parliament, Cristobal Jimenez. Later, Chavez returned with President Lugo to sing a reggae version of Mercedes Sosa’s song, “Todo Cambia,” arranged by Lugo’s head of Security, Marcial Congo, a long-haired, bearded man who looked to be pushing sixty. The group accompanying them was led by rock musician Rolando Chaparro who had begun his set with a soulful rock guitar version of Paraguay’s National Anthem,"

Jeeze... I wish we could see an inauguration like this in the usa.

Palast - The House I Live In:

"Howard Zinn, a shining historian on our hill, reminds us, 'It should be understood that the children of Iraq, of China, and of Africa, children everywhere in the world, have the same right to life as American children.'
Damn right, they do. That's what Jefferson meant by 'inalienable.'
And they won't get their rights to life and liberty from Osama's Caliphate of oil states or China's money-crazed 'Communism' nor half of Africa's neo-colonial presidential Draculas or the puppet princes installed today in Iraq by George Bush.
Bush is so far away from his refugee loser roots that he just doesn't get what it is to be American. So he steals the one thing that every American is handed off the boat: a chance. When they take away your Social Security and overtime and tell you sleeper cells are sleeping under your staircase, you don't take a chance, you lose your chance, and the land of opportunity becomes a landscape of fear and suspicion, an armed madhouse.
You want to say that George Bush is an evil sonovabitch? I'd go further: he's UN-AMERICAN."

Wanda’s arguments are generally correct, but she leaves out the fact that women are psychopaths as well as men, just in lesser numbers. Golda Mier? Margaret Thatcher? Eva Peron? Er, ahem, Hillary Clinton? Margaret Sanger? Further, women tend to engage
in non-violent psychopathy, having turned it almost into an art form. Regardless, the violent-prone like Gacy makes the papers, while the female conniver at the office or in politics who destroys her co-workers as she rises to the top is rarely, if ever, mentioned.

The better argument is that “civilization” as we know it is the result of the struggle between psychopaths and otherwise “normal” people. Unfortunately, in both business and government, it is the psychopaths who rise to power, regardless of sex.

The “Court History” of the U.S. is littered with psychopaths as both Presidents and “Captains of Industry”, and we are taught that they are heroes. The General who is the greatest butcher, the President who maneuvered us into war, the C.E.O. who built “THE CORPORATION” through destroying unions and competition - this we are taught to idealize, a role model.

What of the leader of fought for ongoing peace and prosperity? He is little but an afterthought, with little comment except what number he was on our grand list of leaders. It is the Butcher who we adore, who we genuflect to. The “Great Leader”, so we’ve been told. “The Good War.”

Read Loboweski’s “Political Ponerology” and Dr. Martha Stouts “The Paranoia Switch” and “The Sociopath Next Door”, as well as the works of Dr. Hare. Read Naomi Klein’s “The Shock Doctrine”. “They” control everything.

Joe Bageant: Old Dogs and Hard Time: "Governments and states exist to control people, and for no other reason. If justice is achieved somewhere in the process, it's an added bonus. But control above all else is necessary for modern civilization to exist. Population grows by the minute, increasing social pressure on humanity. More rules and more control are required to keep order. Order is defined as the way we think others should behave -- or imagine them to misbehave. We support the state's police machinery and massive incarceration of our fellow citizens, so long as they are being imprisoned for the right reasons. They should pay. Every action in a capitalist world must produce money. So they should pay in cash."

Asked at a news conference at Wales's Hay literary festival on Sunday how a future U.S. president should deal with the Iranian nuclear threat, Carter put the risk in context by listing atomic weapons held globally.

'The U.S. has more more than 12,000 nuclear weapons, the Soviet Union (Russia) has about the same, Great Britain and France have several hundred, and Israel has 150 or more. We have a phalanx of enormous weaponry ... not only of enormous weaponry but of rockets to deliver those missiles on a pinpoint accuracy target,' he said, according to a transcript of his remarks."

Dissident Voice : Media Shit Storms and Heartland Reality:

"Let’s get to the nub of this thing here: Obama, Hillary and McCain are farting through silk while playing out their roles in our theatrical state’s false drama called presidential elections, while smug and media sanctioned pundits snark from the edge of the proscenium arc of politics, each hoping to draw enough attention to have his or her own proscenium in that national cathedral of the American consciousness — television.

Before too long this earth shaking “incident” will be drowned out by the accumulating noise of the election year. Then even the election’s hoopla will all be wiped away when Oprah Winfrey, in one of her ever grander spectacles of televised largess, gives away the city of Detroit to the sixth grade author of the most heart rending essay on black poverty."

McCain is a dick

dickipedia

McCain ran for the Republican nomination in the 2000 presidential election, but was defeated by another dick, George W. Bush. In the 2008 presidential cycle, McCain was joined in the race by a lazy dick, a Mormon dick, a evangelical dick, a libertarian former gynecologist dick and a dick named Giuliani. After the Mormon dick dropped out in February of 2008, McCain became the presumptive nominee.

Far from actually being a "maverick," the one word that would accurately describe his time in public life is: "asshole." That McCain was able to successfully make himself be thought of as a "maverick" says as much about the press as it does about McCain. That is, one cannot understand how McCain did this without also understanding the delicate psychology of the Washington D. C. press corps.

Most Washington journalists have a deeply internalized sense of self-loathing. They see themselves as cowardly, flaccid, ineffectual, impotent wimps. In this, they're not entirely wrong. They have always secretly admired the asshole jocks who used to push them around in high school. The journalists would console themselves with the soothing affirmation that the assholes were not as smart as they were. They were right, of course, but still, deep down the journalists secretly admired the assholes.

Along comes John McCain -- an asshole, but an asshole who is nice to them, an asshole who comes to back of the plane and jokes around with them and doesn't make them feel unmanly. Why, sometimes, it seemed as if McCain really liked them. A few years of this, and suddenly McCain's not a temperamental, dangerously unstable asshole, he's a "maverick."

But the self-esteem issues of the weakling press notwithstanding, McCain is, in fact, an asshole.
An asshole who wants to be the President of the United States. As an asshole senator, he the sort of guy who says things like:

• "Only an asshole would put a budget together like this!" (to New Mexico Republican Pete Dominici)

• "I'm calling you a fucking jerk!" (to Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley)

• "Fuck you. I know more about this than anybody in the room." (To Texas Republican Senator John Cornyn)

This is why Senator Dominici said in 2000 that "I decided I didn't want this guy anywhere near a trigger." It is presumed by this he meant the nuclear trigger.

McCain is also the sort of guy who would tell the following joke:

Q: Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?

A: Her father is Janet Reno.

This is the sort of humor assholes find funny. When he told the joke, Chelsea Clinton was seventeen years old. Some say when you open an attack like this on the looks of someone who did not ask to be thrust into the public eye, you invite similar attacks in your own direction.

Accordingly, this is a photo of McCain's freakish-looking over-plastic-surgery'd wife Cindy:

Scroll down for the freak show

(click on the link above or imagine john mcain hisself in a wig) frogamundo

In speaking about whether he had ever witnessed McCain's notorious temper problem, former Pennsylvania Republican Senator Rick Santorum said, "I don't know anybody in the Senate who hasn't. Everybody has their McCain story."

And if America elects this temperamental, dangerously unstable, angry old asshole, America will have its own McCain story too.

10 things every adult should know

Sometimes it's hard to come up with a full-length, balls-to-the-wall rant, but a lot of "too long for Twitter, too short for a whole post" ideas float in and out of my head all the time. Here's 10 things every adult really ought to know, but a lot of people are apparently just too fucking stupid to figure out:

1. Having sex can cause pregnancy. This one seems too obvious to mention, but judging from the number of accidental children in the world, I thought it bore repeating. Nothing is 100% effective against pregnancy except abstinence, or the removal of your ovaries or testicles. (Incidentally, abortion is still legal in the US and most of Europe, just in case.)
2. If you cover your face with piercing jewelry, you may not be able to find a job. This also goes for doing weird things to your hair, and getting tattoos in conspicuous places. And for fuck's sake, don't give me any bullshit about "freedom of expression", you little dumbass. You go right ahead and express yourself all you want, but body modification is not a constitutionally protected belief system. They can't not hire you for being a Jew, but they certainly can not hire you for looking like a fucking freak. (caveat: I have both piercings and tattoos … nothing against tattoos, piercings or fucking freaks. Just don't whine about it when you're treated like one.)

No I did not write this but I've thought about these things at various points in my 50 years of travails... I mean travels.

BTW the fuckin' army is testing some ball busting super cannon up here and every time it goes off my whole house shakes, I'm at least 5 miles from the range. I just hope the jokers crack one of my windows so I can throw a fit. GOD BLESS AMERICA LAND THAT I LOVE....

Our Commander in Chief declared a week ago when the Iraqi Army first marched into Basra, 'I would say this is a defining moment in the history of a free Iraq.' When the Iraqi Army fled a few days later, he suddenly got very quiet. But anybody could see how deluded the poor fucker is just by all the nonsense he managed to cram into that 15-word sentence. I mean, 'the history of a free Iraq'?"

Company 'gives away' Southwest to Mexico: "Navarro said one could argue 'that while Mexico lost the war in 1848, it will probably win it in the 21st century, in terms of the numbers,' 'But that is not a reality based on what Mexico does, it's based on what this country does,' he insisted.

In a 1995 speech to Chicano activists, Navarro said demographic trends are leading to 'a transfer of power' to the ethnic Mexican community in the Southwest. He notes that most studies show that within the next 20 to 30 years Latinos will comprise more than 50 percent of the population of California. This fact, and other cultural and social developments, are opening the door for 'self-determination' and even 'the idea of an Aztlan,' he said in his speech."

Factor military duty into criticism -- National Government, The White House, Lyndon Baines Johnson -- chicagotribune.com

Factor military duty into criticism -- National Government, The White House, Lyndon Baines Johnson -- chicagotribune.com:

"While this young man was serving six years on active duty, Vice President Dick Cheney, who was born the same year as the Marine/sailor, received five deferments, four for being an undergraduate and graduate student and one for being a prospective father. Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, both five years younger than the African-American youth, used their student deferments to stay in college until 1968. Both then avoided going on active duty through family connections.

Who is the real patriot? The young man who interrupted his studies to serve his country for six years or our three political leaders who beat the system? Are the patriots the people who actually sacrifice something or those who merely talk about their love of the country?"

I don't even have to hear what the Rev said in his sermons to know that what he said is probably absolutely spot on. How can a black man in america not want god to damn it? Frankly I am rather disappointed in the big "O" for not standing up for his pastor more strongly...but then again in whitey land you gotta do what you gotta do to be a viable candidate.

Web of Debt - Today We're All Irish: Debt Serfdom Comes to America:

"In the American South (mainly New Orleans), the Irish lived in swamp land infested with disease. Here, Irish men were looked upon as actually lower than slaves. As one historian put it, if a plantation owner lost a slave, he lost an investment; if he lost a laborer, he could always get another. Because the Irish workers were plentiful and expendable, they were often sent in to do dangerous jobs for which the slave-owners were reluctant to send their valuable slaves.2"

Everyones Entitled to My Own Opinion - WCLT News, Newark Ohio:

"McCain’s most horrendous loss occurred in 1967 on the USS Forrestal. Well, not horrendous for him. The starter motor switch on the A4E Skyhawk allowed fuel to pool in the engine. When the aircraft was “wet-started,” an impressive flame would shoot from the tail. It was one of the ways young hot-shots got their jollies. Investigators and survivors took the position that McCain deliberately wet-started to harass the F4 pilot directly behind him. The cook off launched an M34 Zuni rocket that tore through the Skyhawk’s fuel tank, released a thousand pound bomb, and ignited a fire that killed the pilot plus 167 men. Before the tally of dead and dying was complete, the son and grandson of admirals had been transferred to the USS Oriskany."

Are you a genuine social conservative? Do you believe in our wonderful Constitution? Are you opposed the Iraq War and its precursor strategies that have killed hundreds of thousands of innocents? Are you fiscally responsible? Do you truly understand the principles of republicanism? Do you believe in marital fidelity? Are you a supporter of free speech? I submit that if your answer to any of these questions is yes, you cannot vote for John McCain and retain your integrity. The lesser of 2 or 3 evils is still evil. In this case, not by a measurable amount.

Dissident Voice : One Bush Left Behind: "Here’s your question, class:

In his State of the Union, the President asked Congress for $300 million for poor kids in the inner city. As there are, officially, 15 million children in America living in poverty, how much is that per child? Correct! $20.

Here’s your second question. The President also demanded that Congress extend his tax cuts. The cost: $4.3 trillion over ten years. The big recipients are millionaires. And the number of millionaires happens, not coincidentally, to equal the number of poor kids, roughly 15 million of them. OK class: what is the cost of the tax cut per millionaire? That’s right, Richie, $287,000 apiece.

Mr. Bush said, “In neighborhoods across our country, there are boys and girls with dreams. And a decent education is their only hope of achieving them.”

So how much educational dreaming will $20 buy?"

Thus, wherever there is unquestioned obedience to mass behavior, there is power for the state over individual freedom and profits to be made by the few who understand the value of public obedience. Consequently, the natural cooperative social nature of ordinary people guarantees that there will always be despots, authoritarian states and the few exploiting the many."

Their goal is to create an authoritarian government, with control of the media and the judiciary; to weaken all restraints on executive power and eliminate democratic freedoms; to undermine the public education system through fiscal starvation and rote learning, so that the poor will learn only enough to follow orders; and to create the kind of economic inequality so many Third World countries enjoy--by filling the pockets of a tiny group of extremely rich individuals and impoverishing the rest, thereby providing a mass of cheap labor. This policy began under Ronald Reagan and has made huge leaps under the Bush regime. We don't have too much further to go to achieve this right-wing 'ideal'."

Dissident Voice : Darwin and Friedman in the Corporate World

Dissident Voice : Darwin and Friedman in the Corporate World:

"Profiteering is so established as the primary function of the corporation that the corporate world's foremost sage and theorist, the late free-market economist Milton Friedman, declared that any corporate management failing to function so as to maximize profit should be sued by shareholders. Friedman's philosophy has taken such hold of society that Alan Greenspan, lately head of the Federal Reserve, was moved to say that Friedman has been able "to materially alter the direction of civilization", a view mirrored by President George W. Bush who admitted that Friedman "has changed America and is changing the world."

Consider for a moment how you might strategize were you to find yourself at the head of an immense, immortal “person” with growth and profit the prime concerns. Wouldn’t you work for a “free market” that, for you, would be a highway without stop signs for your interests? Would you not, given your nearly unimaginable financial resources, infiltrate government, generate “think tanks”, hire platoons of lobbyists and fund political campaigns in order to ensure laws that further your profiteering? Would you not sanctify private property, resist accountability and send tendrils to all corners of the globe? And wouldn’t you purchase networks and newspapers in order to control information distribution and keep the masses in line?

"Obviously, I retain a special affection for Uncle Tim. If any of these men could legitimately be called complex, it is probably Leary. A brilliant scientist, he was often reviled by traditional scientists, whom he called 'arrogant motherfuckers who deny their role in the military industrial complex's manipulation of the American people.' Leary rejected what he called the 'grim Newtonian mechanics of objective fact' for the 'free flowing quantum physics approach to consciousness' that the changing, not the static, governs consciousness and the outcome of the world. 'Understanding this even intuitively,' he said, makes people unmanageable by agents of the criminal government syndicate that runs and ruins America.' That sort of talk was why Nixon called him 'the most dangerous man in America.'"

Joe Bageant: Rising Above Politics:

"Bring' em on." And we mean it.

We mean it berceuse we know life is struggle and that"Bring 'em on" is the cry and attitude of a true survivor. The rest is just politics and rich people. Now lordee knows I"m no political strategist. But I"ve been all over heartland America and I know that Missouri, Kansas, Minnesota and Ohio, Michigan and Minnesota ain"t all that different than Virginia when it comes to working people's sentiments.

If the Westchester Country Club posing as the Democratic Party would get it into their heads that they could elect a smart man or woman who has actually changed a tire or gotten behind in a house payment, instead if the mocha rich boy or the woman who wants to prove she has more balls than any man,
they could bring home a populist vote they don't even know exists. But then, from the third hole at the Westchester Biltmore Country Club, you cannot see Thelma when she goes home and night and soaks her feet in hot Epson salts water. And you cannot see into the warrior hearts of a people ever kept blind by a hopeless class system, but would understand true populism if they were shown it just once in their lives."

True populist politics could give us a quarter turn in the right direction. Genuine socialism could put us on the approximate path to justice. Eco-politics cannot save us from the inevitable, but at lest it can teach us to deal with our limitations as a species upon this earth. But one begins the journey at the start if the path, not the promised land at its end.

Can we quit talking and start walking now?

'It's time that Stockton enter the 21st century in its delivery of services and think of our citizens as customers,' he said. And there is the crux of the issue -- privatization means transforming citizens into customers. Or, in other words, making people engaged in a democratic process into consumers looking to get the best deal.It is also means taking our most important resource and putting it at the whims of the market."

Christians Demand Bush be Impeached for Worshiping Satan

Christians Demand Bush be Impeached for Worshiping Satan

: "The United States is spending close to one billion dollars building an embassy in Iraq that is going to be as big if not bigger than Vatican City. How can Bush justify spending this money on an embassy when Baghdad is still in shambles and the Veteran's Administration in the United States is in complete disarray? It is clear that Bush does'ntt care about U.S. military personnel, or the Iraqi people. Instead, Bush is more concerned with building a new modern day version of Babylon as part of an effort to further the influence of his satanic New World Order masters. Bush and his New World Order masters believe that they themselves are living gods on earth and exempt from divine judgment.

The evidence is overwhelming. George W. Bush,s association with these secret societies coupled with his actions that have caused an untold amount of death and destruction is clear proof that he worships Satan. We are demanding that Bush and any other member of his administration that poses as a fake Christian and worships Satan in secret be removed from office immediately.

I couldn't make up stuff like this... nor could I agree more!

Former ambassador to the UN John Bolton told the BBC that before any ceasefire Washington wanted Israel to eliminate Hezbollah's military capability.

Mr Bolton said an early ceasefire would have been 'dangerous and misguided'.

He said the US decided to join efforts to end the conflict only when it was clear Israel's campaign wasn't working...

Mr Bolton, a controversial and blunt-speaking figure, said he was 'damned proud of what we did' to prevent an early ceasefire."

Fidel Castro: Biofuels and Global Hunger

In additional response to a comment by Rick on ethanol production I proudly post these observations by one of our favorite boogy men, Fidel!!!

I have to add, the days of unlimited, low cost, both economically and environmentally, fuel are numbered. Time to start riding a bike!

Fidel Castro: Biofuels and Global Hunger:

"The president urged Congress
to 'move expeditiously' on legislation the administration
recently proposed to require the use of 35 billion gallons of
alternative fuels by 2017 and seek higher fuel economy standards
for automobiles."

Today we know with accurate precision that one ton of corn can only render as an average 413 liters of ethanol (109 gallons), a figure that may vary according to the latter's density.

The average price of corn in US ports has reached 167 dollars per ton. The production of 35 billion gallons of ethanol requires 320 million tons of corn. According to FAO, US corn production in 2005 reached 280.2 million tons.

Even if the President is speaking about producing fuel out of switchgrass or wood chips, any person could understand that these phrases are far from realistic. Listen well: 35 billion gallons, 35 followed by nine zeros!

Let this formula be applied to the Third World countries, and the world will see how many hungry people on this planet will cease to consume corn. What is worse, let the poor countries receive some financing to produce ethanol from corn or any other foodstuff and very soon not a single tree will be left standing to protect humanity from climate change.

All countries of the world without exception, whether rich or poor, could save trillions of dollars in investments and fuel if they only replace all incandescent bulbs with fluorescent bulbs, which is what Cuba has done in all the residential areas of the country. This would be a palliative that will enable us to cope with climate change without killing the poor people in this planet with hunger.

...Therefore, despite the excellent technology designed by Brazil to produce alcohol, its use in Cuba to produce alcohol from sugarcane juice is nothing but a dream, the ravings of those who entertain such ideas. In our country, the land which would otherwise be devoted solely to the production of alcohol could be better used to produce foodstuffs for the people and protect the environment.

Narco News: Out-Flanked: A New War on Terra Arrives with Bush-Lula Ethanol Deal

Narco News: Out-Flanked: A New War on Terra Arrives with Bush-Lula Ethanol Deal:

"Not only will both Brazil and the USA become kings of the new worldwide ethanol fuels industry, but the very company running everything will be the Miami Florida based Inter-American Ethanol Commission: The former Brazilian Minister of Agriculture, and now agri-business tycoon, Roberto Rodrigues, created this newly formed company just last December. Who are his two principle partners? Luis Alberto Moreno from Columbia and Jeb Bush!

Now if people really begin to consider all the strange goings on emanating out of Brasilia from the Lula administration and the history of ethanol bio-fuels in general, things begin to make a lot more sense. Why was nothing of any importance done to stem the human tide of Nordestinos heading south year after year? Why would Lula turn his back on his Leftist past and do nothing to reform the crushing grip the oligarchs still have on the Brazilian economy? Why was the PT systematically gutted with scandal after scandal? Why was Lula so eager to commit troops after the anti-Aristide Coup in Haiti? Why was Lula running around "liberating" oil markets from previously pariah regimes like Libya and later Angola? Don't forget that green and eco-friendly "Save the Amazon"campaign, either. Finally, what does the new ethanol bio-fuels pact between Brazil and the USA (Bush Family) really mean?"

I'll tell you what it really means, the bush dynasty will continue to have it's jack booted foot on our throats for the next hundred years unless we throw the f#*kers in jail. Keep reading...

The answers are that the newly displaced Nordestino populations will make excellent slave labor for the expected ethanol producing sugarcane fields and sugar processing mills. The oligarchs as usual will be running and profiting from the enterprise. The PT has been effectively neutralized to keep anyone from getting in the way. Haiti is where the processed sugarcane will be refined into the new E10 ethanol based fuels which can be readily consumed by the American auto owners soon to be weaned off of fossil fuels coming out of the Middle East and Venezuela for starters. Lula has been an active agent promoting Big Oil’s interest in emerging third world markets and petroleum fields.

The Brazilian Amazon looks like the perfect place to plant ever larger sugarcane crops for the soon to be exponentially growing worldwide ethanol demand. Brazil plans on doubling its ethanol production in five years to 30 billion liters. They’ll eventually have to quadruple this number once serious American ethanol consumption begins. In less than twenty years 300 billion liters are planned to be produced to feed other world markets such as China and India. Serious acreage is going to be needed to pull this off and take a big guess as to where this acreage can be found?

Finally, the Bush Family is re-diversifying its worldwide energy investments. Perhaps the sheiks of the Mid-East aren’t going to be such good close friends in the years to come? The Brazilian Oligarchs look much more interesting? Unfortunately it doesn’t stop there. The Bush Family has recently bought massive amounts of real estate in nearby Paraguay’s Chaco Region: an excellent geographical area to reside if you’re also interested in other energy industries and markets such as natural gas and hydroelectric Power. In the North it’s Bolivia, to the South is Argentina, to the West are Chile and Peru and to the East is Brazil. Well done.

Lieberman: Let's Have A "War Tax" | The Huffington Post: "How about a $100/barrel tax on imported oil? That would make the Persian Gulf irrelevent to the US national interest and we could bring the troops home.

Ford and GM could reinvent themselves as manufacturers of mass transit. Those who always knew they could work as well at home on their computer as in the office would get their chance. And the average family, freed from the necessity of paying $500 or more per month in car payments, gasoline, maintenance and insurance would fuel a massive run-up in the economy.

The Christmas Truce'- When Men Said No To War

"On Christmas Day, 1914, in the first year of World War I, German, British, and French soldiers disobeyed their superiors and fraternized with 'the enemy' along two-thirds of the Western Front. German troops held Christmas trees up out of the trenches with signs, 'Merry Christmas.' 'You no shoot, we no shoot.' Thousands of troops streamed across a no-man's land strewn with rotting corpses. They sang Chrismas carols, exchanged photographs of loved ones back home, shared rations, played football, even roasted some pigs. Soldiers embraced men they had been trying to kill a few short hours before. They agreed to warn each other if the top brass forced them to fire their weapons, and to aim high.

A shudder ran through the high command on either side.
Here was disaster in the making: soldiers declaring their brotherhood with
each other and refusing to fight. Generals on both sides declared this
spontaneous peacemaking to be treasonous and subject to court martial.
By March, 1915 the fraternization movement had been eradicated and the
killing machine put back in full operation. By the time of the armistice
in 1918, fifteen million would be slaughtered."

Merry Christmas everyone! And remember to give middle finger bird of peace to every general in every army in the world, in rememberance of the 75 million people killed by their decisions during two world wars.

But others around the world recognize it, including Sim Wong Hoo, founder and CEO of Singapore-based Creative Technology (Singapore has those top test scores that NCLB chomps at the bit to achieve, check out TIMSS) when asked by Newsweek about the advantages to having his business located in Singapore, he answered, 'the advantage is we come from a very conscientious culture. Letting Citizens Make Legislation | NewAssignment.Net

"Citizens using the Internet to monitor their representatives and the legislation that they draft is nothing novel. But a new Sunlight Foundation project aimed at allowing citizen legislatures to collaboratively script their own legislation, challenging what representative democracy means, certainly is.
Past elections have proven that a candidate's willingness and ability to engage online communities can mean the difference between winning and losing an election. But with this project, The Sunlight Foundation, a funder of NewAssignment.Net, suggests that governance, not just election outcomes, can be changed as well.
Using the model of moreperfect.org, organizers have set up a wiki and divided the research project into four categories: identifying relevant, already-proposed legislation, gathering information and vetting news article about the legislation, suggesting legislative language or rules and suggesting amendments to existing bills.

"If this is a success, and we draft proposable legislation in this area, we can use this experiment to show lawmakers how they might do the same in the future share principles with their constituents, and work with them, instead of in secret, to turn those principals into laws" writes Zephyr Teachout, the Sunlight Foundation's national director."

Craigslist Meets the Capitalists

"Wendy Davis of MediaPost describes the presentation as a " culture clash of near-epic proportions." She recounts how UBS analyst Ben Schachter wanted to know how Craigslist plans to maximize revenue. "It doesn't," Mr. Buckmaster replied (perhaps wondering how Mr. Schachter could possibly not already know this). "That definitely is not part of the equation," he said, according to MediaPost. "It's not part of the goal."
"I think a lot of people are catching their breath right now," Mr. Schachter said in response.

Larry Dignan, writing on Between the Lines blog at ZDNet, called Mr. Buckmaster “delightfully communist,”
and described the audience as“confused capitalists wondering how a company can exist without the urge to maximize profits.”

Tin Hat Theories about Tiny Little Nukes

I read an article a couple of months ago by one of those nut jobs that think that 9/11 wasn't the work of A' rabs that hated us for our "freedoms". This whacko had definitely drunk way too much commie-islamofascist koolaid. His theory? That a small thermonuclear explosion had been used to obliterate the steel cores at the center of WTC 1&2!!!

Somebody take this whacko out in the parking lot and shoot him like the raving mad dog that he is!

A SMALL THERMONUCLEAR DEVICE !?!

What a crock! Nothing like that could ever exist much less be used without us finding out about it.

So I'm reading a cool hack mag called MAKE and there is this article where some commie allah lovin' gay marriage, gun control and probably PACIFIST!!! traitor is sayin' that nuclear physicists like to make big boom booms. Well DUH!!! If I was smart enough to make nukes that could kill all the people that Bill O'reilly hates and said bombs made a hell of boom I'd do it! Damn tootin'!

Well anyway there was some crap in there about shootin' space craft across the universe with nuclear explosions and how.... well I'll telll you, it was crap in the high degree.

So I decided to write an email to one of the worst of the worst of these conspiracy nut cases ( St. Rush of the Oxycontin Martyrs protect me) Douglas Herman. Here it is:

Doug, I recently read an article in Make: magazine volume 7 by George Dyson titled, Strange Love, Or how they learned to start worrying and love to hate the bomb. Dyson's father is  a physicist who worked on the Orion Project, the project exploring the use of Nuclear Explosions to power space ships.(Freeman Dyson). George writes of interviewing physicists that were involved in the project and in particular  the project leader Theodore B. Taylor. Basically the article explored physicist's love of making thing go boom in a big way.

What caught my eye and kept me awake that night was Taylor's words about the use of very small amounts of plutonium and large amounts of high explosives to create non standard bombs, explosions that would "...absorb the neutrons and act as a shielding for the ship." He even wrote a warning in a paper titled Notes on Criminal or Terrorist Uses of Nuclear Explosives, " The group could be an extremist group of U.S. citizens who believe they are trying to save the U.S." He goes on to state "These were all very non standard bombs, which meant nobody believed us: the numbers clearly didn't add up. This is also a very interesting question from the point of view of the terrorist bomb problem. If you have a bunch of people wanting to blow up the World Trade Center,  or something, they might have no difficulty getting large amounts of high explosive, so it's important not to declassify all that stuff. (emphasis added). Dyson interviewed Taylor EIGHT YEARS AGO!

I really didn’t know who else to pass this on to. So because you are a fellow Alaskan and publicize your Emil address I picked you. I really like your writing although I haven’t picked up a copy of your book yet. I also guess if I’m not already on somebody's watch list I’ve included enough keywords in this missive that the carnivore will definitely smell blood.

Sincerely,

So ther ya' go
A small nuke is just highly classified crap that could never exist.

Ultimately the choice is between lesser evils, which speak volumes about the state of decay of American politics. Good never springs from evil, so we witness the steady moral decline of a nation mired in corruption and confusion.

There is nothing benign about corporate financiers who hedge their bets by supporting candidates of the major parties. Corporate CEOs are not philanthropists interested in the well being of America. They are motivated by greed and profits, and when they finance political campaigns, make no mistake about it; they are renting or buying politicians who will help them achieve their objectives.

Special interest money is a malignancy that grows in the bowels of government, and it must be removed lest it kill the host."

Education Quotes and Proverbs

Education Quotes and Proverbs:

"T.H. White, 'The Once and Future King'
The best thing for being sad,' replied Merlin, beginning to puff and blow, 'is to learn something. That's the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the only thing for you. Look what a lot of things there are to learn.'"

Quotes for the weekend

:

"No one has yet realized the wealth of sympathy, the kindness and generosity hidden in the soul of a child. The effort of every true education should be to unlock that treasure.

Emma Goldman

Instead of seeing these children for the blessings that they are, we are measuring them only by the standard of whether they will be future deficits or assets for our nation's competitive needs.

“we do not have the things you have ... Can you help us?”

Jonathan Kozol

I went to a lecture by Jonathan Kozol last night, the soul shines with beautiful clarity within the actions and words of Jonathan and Emma.

(DV) Rockstroh: Selling Satan -- Iraqi War Dead and the Collateral Damage to America's Soul

"We Americans have numbed ourselves in order to be able to live with our complicity in the crimes of empire. We have carpet bombed our rational minds into oblivion by the belief in chimeras such as "smart bombs." Reason tells us a truly smart bomb would be able to distinguish the innocent from the guilty. Therefore, for a smart bomb to exist, it would have to be a Frankenstein Monster Bomb, because, in order to exterminate the truly guilty, it would first have to kill its creators. Then it would go after the soulless bastards who ordered its use. Accordingly, smart bombs would be flying into Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld's front doors as thick and fast as moths toward a glowing porch light on a warm summer night.

Only a society of numbed-out, reality-adverse imbeciles could believe in the existence of smart bombs. In a related matter, recent public opinion surveys have revealed close to seventy percent of the population of the United States does not believe in the Theory of Evolution, yet believes that a mythological character called Satan is a literal entity."

It's easy to believe in Satan when you see pictures of Dick Cheney...Scary!!!

Narco News: A Call from the Zapatistas: Oaxaca Is Not Alone

Narco News: A Call from the Zapatistas: Oaxaca Is Not Alone:

"Oaxaca's people are resisting. Not one single honest person can remain quiet and unmoved while the entire society, of which the majority are indigenous, is murdered, beaten and jailed.

We, the Zapatistas, will not be silent; we will mobilize to support our brothers, sisters and comrades in Oaxaca.

The EZLN's Sixth Commission has already consulted the Zapatista leadership and the following has been decided:

First: During whole day of November 1, 2006, the major and minor roads that cross Zapatistas territories in the southwestern state of Chiapas will be closed.

Consequently, we ask that everyone avoid traveling by these roads in Chiapas on this day and that one make the necessary arrangements in order to do so.

Second: through the Sixth Commission, the EZLN has begun making contact and consulting other political and social organizations, groups, collectives and individuals in the Other Campaign, in order to coordinate joint solidarity actions across Mexico, leading to a nationwide shut-down on the 20th of November, 2006.

Third: the EZLN calls out to the Other Campaign in Mexico and north of the Rio Grande, so that these November 1st mobilizations happen wherever possible, completely, partially, at intervals or symbolically shutting down the major artery roads, streets, toll booths, stations, airports and commercial media.

Fourth: The central message that the Zapatistas send and will continue sending is that the people of Oaxaca are not alone: They are not alone!

Ulises Ruiz out of Oaxaca!

Immediate withdrawal of the occupying federal forces from Oaxaca!

Immediate and unconditional freedom for all detainees!

Cancel all arrest warrants!

Punish the murderers!

Justice!
Freedom!
Democracy!

From the North of Mexico.
For the Clandestine Revolutionary Indigenous Committee-General Command of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation.
For the EZLN Sixth Commission.

"With Howard Dean in charge (of anything) and Hillary Clinton having become Rupert's next Queen (after Blair, then Bush) it really doesn't appear as though the Democratic Party should be looked at for anything other than starting the cleanup process, after which they will need to be trashed, as well. Especially the appeasement Democrats.

Hell Awaits, America

Hell Awaits, America :

"PRIDE (SUPERBIA): Considered by many to be the most grievous of the Seven Deadly Sins, pride was the impetus for Lucifer's fall. Before their umbilical cord is even severed those born as citizens of the American Empire begin receiving a barrage of assurances from the media matrix that theirs is an exceptionally superior nation.Brimming with hubris and a pathological nationalism, those who have internalized the Big Lie wave their blood-drenched flags in open support of fire bombings, nuclear assaults, the installation and support of ruthless dictators, neocolonialism, and brutal invasions of tiny and vulnerable nations. Enmeshed in the protective cocoon of the Empire, we are imbued with the warped psychological capacity to pursue our narcissistic fantasies while callously disregarding the misery we are inflicting upon other human beings. Many US Americans regard hubris and narcissism as their natural rights. And they exercise these 'rights' with the zeal of a jonesing crack addict hustling for their next fix."

Screaming is a Waste of Breath

"When I have considered the enormity of the white man's crimes ... I think in perfect harmony—with my sister of long ago:  Let the earth marinate in poisons.  Let the bombs cover the ground like rain.  For nothing short of total destruction will ever teach them anything."
-Alice Walker, on Zora Neale Hurston, 1976

I'm pretty much convinced that this is the only way that most " Red, White and Blue uhmuricans, will ever "get" it.

(DV) Frank: Bye, Bye Civil Liberties -- Blame the Democrats

:

"In the wake of September 11, it wasn't surprising that Clinton's successor George W. Bush legislated additional infringements upon civil liberties in the name of patriotism and national security. And yes, the Democrats overwhelmingly supported the Patriot Act in both of its awful versions. But it wasn't the Patriot Act that allowed the federal government to make those sweeping detentions across the country immediately following 9/11-- it was Clinton's Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty bill.

So, who is honestly supposed to believe that ushering the Democrats back into office in November will bring any sort of legitimate change -- in Iraq, or back at home?"

Note to the American people: Here's a sure-fire way to save a major American metropolitan area from an "even chance" of nuclear annihiliation in the next ten years: let's take our soldiers, bases, guns, ships, helicopters, jets, and other expansionist and racist weaponry out of the Islamic World and stop interacting with the Middle East and the rest of the human community through imperial eyes.

Shouting in the Dark

Shouting in the Dark:

"School Assembly: The Hidden Curriculum

Our school was recently visited by Charlie.Charlie is what is known as a "motivational speaker," which means his intention is to stimulate an interest in, or enthusiasm to do something.Charlie introduced himself to the students as "Secret Agent Man Charlie" He told the children that he owed his success to having been a U.S. Navy Seal. Charlie added that there wasn't very much he could say about the Seals, as everything is highly secretive due to their elite status. Instead, Charlie substantiated his claims with a demonstration of his amazing abilities.Charlie demonstrated different versions of military style push-ups: Army (traditional); Marine (one-armed); Coast Guard (knees touching the floor); and Seal (from a hand-stand position). The children took notice."

"...It turns out that Secret Agent Man Charlie works for the National Character Education Foundation based out of Pennsylvania. The NCEF website is quite impressive. They certainly espouse their dedication for developing “character education.” Their homepage proclaims a declaration for a “Fourteen Year Initiative.” The list of the NCEF’s partners amounts to eighteen different sponsors; half of which are U.S. congressmen, senators, and representatives.

A search on the web reveals many similarities between them. Every single one of them is a staunch Republican. Most of them are from Pennsylvania, and many receive a 100% rating of endorsement from the Pennsylvania Christian Coalition.

I wonder how many of them are "into" young male pages... pun intended.

Philip Slater: Why America's First Major Terrorist Attack is Forgotten, and what it Shows us

:

"Americans need to wake up to the fact that right-wing Republicans don't believe in democracy and never have. They have always admired military dictatorships and seem to be working hard to set up the equivalent here in the United States.

Who benefits from the Afghan Opium Trade?

Who benefits from the Afghan Opium Trade?:

"Based on 2003 figures, drug trafficking, constitutes 'the third biggest global commodity in cash terms after oil and the arms trade.' (The Independent, 29 February 2004)."

..."Afghanistan and Colombia are the largest drug producing economies in the world, which feed a flourishing criminal economy. These countries are heavily militarized. The drug trade is protected. Amply documented the CIA has played a central role in the development of both the Latin American and Asian drug triangles."

...hmmm, daddy was was head of the CIA. It's said junior might have had something to do with south america during his "missing" time in the guard. Both of them are heavily involved in the oil business and all of daddy and junior's friends are heavily involved in arms trading. ( and use ) so.... is there a pattern here or am I just another tin hat wearing conspiracy theorist?

Ah well I think I'll just stick my head back in the sand, just like most of the rest of america, so I can give the repukes ample access to my nether regions. Have at it boys!!!!

We definitely need a few answers now days.

The Question Never Asked by John M. Peters

The Question Never Asked by John M. Peters:

"'Muslims do not hate us for our "freedom" but rather, they hate our policies. The overwhelming majority voice their objection to what they see as our one-sided support in favor of Israel and against Palestinian rights, and the longstanding, even increasing support for what Muslims collectively see as tyrannies, most notably in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Pakistan, and the Gulf states
...the dramatic narrative since 9/11has essentially borne out the entire radical Islamist bill of particulars.'"

Joe Bageant: Adam Smith Meets Cousin Ronnie's Boy

Joe Bageant: Adam Smith Meets Cousin Ronnie's Boy:

"Regardless of media-manufactured underclass hallucinations as to class, only one class is paying half a week's wages or more for a single doctor visit to a member of the other class. Only one class is counting on Social Security for its entire retirement income (at least 64% of Americans and rising, by last count.) Yeah, yeah, more than half of Americans are invested in the stock market through 401Ks etc. we are told. But only at a few thousand dollars per household. When it comes to the much-ballyhooed stock market, 10 % of Americans split the national hog between themselves, tossing the ears to the other 90%. At this point bona fide pinkos may be excused from reading the next paragraph. You've heard it a million times, but I just can't help myself, comrade.

Cometh the old familiar numbers so oft heard, but worth repeating in hope that their meaning may by mysterious courses known only to God, take spark in the football besotted minds of my fellow underclass mutts: The richest 10 percent of families own a little over 85% of all outstanding stocks, 87% of all financial securities, and 90% of all business assets. If you throw in assets such as homes, checking and savings accounts, CDs and money funds, and pension accounts, then 20% of Americans own 83% of all wealth. The bottom 20% have no assets, no net worth at all. Put simply, the top 20% eat the cake, the middle 60% eat the crumbs and the bottom 20% get to lick the plates while they do everyone else's dishes.
Most true liberals know these numbers by heart. So do conservatives, although conservatives these days seem to take perverse glee in them. They usually explain them in terms such as those of Michael Medford, who cherry picks Will and Ariel Durant's pop history books for gems like: 'Concentration of wealth is a natural result of concentration of ability and special attributes [one immediately thinks of George Bush and Paris Hilton] … "

Joe Bageant: Goodbye Terry Gross, We Niver Knew Ye

Joe Bageant: Goodbye Terry Gross, We Niver Knew Ye:

"Big corporate sponsors do nothing that does not yield a return on investment, nothing that doesn't buy some desired result. Thus, denial and distraction are what those sponsorships from Hewlett Packard and Monsanto really buy. At the same time the denial is all but spotlighted with the fluff and slop that replaces real coverage and demonstrates cooperation to the administration and sponsors. Stuff like 'This I Believe.' Or that overt sop, Marketplace, where happy jock stockbroker types Kai Ryssdal, and that hyperactive airhead in Texas (I forget his name) play pocket pool with each other over the day's market numbers, happily promoting the liberal capitalist notion that the second law of thermodynamics is false and that growth and consumption can be infinite in a world of diminishing resources."

The Blog | Eric Alterman: The American Dream vs. The Gospel of Wealth | The Huffington Post

The Blog | Eric Alterman: The American Dream vs. The Gospel of Wealth | The Huffington Post: "As the new millennium dawned in 2000, the American economy presented an extraordinary portrait of success. For the previous four years, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) had grown at an average real rate of 4.2 percent, a figure well above the 3.2 percent average for the post-World War II era. Unemployment, at 4.2 percent, was well below the postwar average. Inflation was minimal. To top it off, by the end of 2000, the federal government had produced surpluses for three consecutive years--a minor miracle, not seen since the late 1940s. From 1993 through 2000, the U.S. economy created over 23 million new jobs. The federal government was not only able to pay down trillions in accumulated debt; it had money left over to help cope with looming crises in Social Security and Medicare."

"Did you already calculate that if even a fraction of the $300 billion -- a truly staggering amount -- we've wasted on BushCo's failed and disgusting war could have gone to revolutionizing our nation's energy infrastructure (like, say, funding large-scale development of the Roadster's technology), instead of annihilating a pip-squeak nonthreatening nation over its oil reserves while simultaneously serving as the most successful terrorist-recruitment poster in world history, the United States could be considered the epicenter of integrity and invention once again? Of course you did."
