The Blog | Tony Hendra: Can Hillary Be Bought? Never! Not For a Mere $26 Million! | The Huffington Post:

"'I'm going to be just as good as Republicans at sending the message to voters that our democracy is secondary to influence and any principle however hallowed is for sale. I'm going to be just as good as Republicans at getting voters young and old to lose faith in the electoral process - thus increasing the power of the backroom oligarchs with whom I intend to do business.

'In fact I'm just as good as Republicans at being Republican! But I'm also a Democrat! How can you lose? Vote for me - the best of both worlds!

When something piques my interest I read everything I can find on the matter. I haven’t given an ounce of thought to the coming of ethanol. Do you believe it to be generally bad or are you reacting to the Bush interests? My general impression when I was up your way was that most everyone I spoke with was pro-drilling and angry at Washington for bickering over ‘their matter’. (Alaskans) Of course, one only gets a surface sort of reaction in a short visit. This response is obviously to your previous post.

I have some fabulous photography of my drive north. Folks who have never been there are utterly incapable of grasping the enormity.

Hey Rick, I immediately have a gut reaction to anything that bushies have to do with. I know that anything monsanto has to do with carries the potential to become extremely lucrative to them and extremely burdensome to to the rest of us. I think that biodiesel is the real way to proceed and I hope that both of these options will be helped by the legalization of domestic hemp farming. Hemp really does have the potential to drastically reduce our dependence on imported oil.

Yeah, a majority of "us" are pro drilling. I'm not. Not until congress passes laws to increase fleet mpgs, and we have a president that has a comprehensive energy policy that agressively promotes alternate energy. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me to let the oil companies into one of the wildest places on earth just so a bunch of fat lazy suburbanites can continue to drive their gas hogs to the mall.

I think you've summed up my argument against unrestrained drilling in your final sentence.

" Folks who have never been there are utterly incapable of grasping the enormity."

Yikes - the best of both worlds, she says.

Hey, Mike, I've been out of the look too long. It looks like we've been posting along the same lines here. Anarchy is looking better all the time.
