The Carpetbagger Report » Blessed are the warmongers: "Blessed are the warmongers

Not content with one venture into Mess O' Potamia, at least one Republican lawmaker seems anxious to start another – this time, with nukes.

Now we know where Rep. Sam Johnson (R-Texas) thinks the weapons of mass destruction are buried: in Syria, which he said he'd like to nuke to smithereens.

Speaking at a veterans' celebration at Suncreek United Methodist Church in Allen, Texas, on Feb. 19, Johnson told the crowd that he explained his theory to President Bush and Rep. Kay Granger (R-Texas) on the porch of the White House one night.

Johnson said he told the president that night, 'Syria is the problem. Syria is where those weapons of mass destruction are, in my view. You know, I can fly an F-15, put two nukes on 'em and I'll make one pass. We won't have to worry about Syria anymore.'

The crowd roared with applause.

This is so twisted, it's hard to know where to start. Which of these is the most outrageous part of this story?

* That a sitting member of Congress is bragging about his desire to drop nuclear weapons?

* That Johnson has shared this idea with the president?

* That Johnson's favored approach to non-proliferation is an unprovoked nuclear attack?

* That this speech was delivered in a church?

* That Johnson's audience 'roared with applause'?

Carpetbagger reports, you decide.

You are either very young or very stupid. It is no secret that the Syrians have financed terrorist operations for many years. Hezbollah is an extension of the Syrian military. The largest terrorist training camp in the world is in Brazil, run by Hezbollah. Christian missionaries are killed their every year, unlikely if they were muslims missionaries. Live and let live, I think they don’t prescribe to such notions. Nuke ‘em, It may come to that one day. No not today, I agree to that. What will you say when they decide to set up camp in the Minor Outlying Islands of Alaska? Maybe then you’ll be ready to support our troops.

Oh, I love it, this anonymous person is a hoot! Gosh Mike of the North, do you feel "very young"?

Anonymous: if financing terrorist operations is the criteria for being evil, then America needs a good defense lawyer! Oh, I forgot - you guys are opposed to lawyers.

By the way, we export our prisoners to Syria to be tortured. We've outsourced our own depravity!

Anon, Anon, Anon, as the holey book of holes says,

" they knew not their holes from an ass on the ground."

I am not sure of your grasp of historical reality but let me reemphasize the concept of the Monroe Doctrine. Where by it is stated that, "...if'n yore in the western hemisphere, your ass is ours."

This has repeatedly been demonstrated in fairly recent times by actions and incidents such as the cuban missle crisis, the funding of the "contras" in nicaragua, and the invasion of granada and panama. I won't even go into the atrocities of argentina guatemala and el salvador.

Hezbollah camps in brazil?
sure...

Missionary deaths?

Yep, I can believe that. Come into my part of the country and tell me the god (or gods) I worship is/are evil, and of the dark one and I do believe that a number of my neighbors might string you up too.

The people of the sand are much to intelligent to try to "..set up camp in alaska", it's too freakin' cold. Beside which we all have guns and...

"We don't need no stinking badges!!!"
