Mr. Magoo Flying America into Disaster :: Intervention Magazine :: War, Politics, Culture:

"And while Bush continues to trumpet Afghanistan as a success story for American-exported democracy, U.S. troops are still dying there and the country's president is little more than the mayor of Kabul, the nation's capital, since the warlords, Al Qaeda and the Taliban control the rest of the country and have turned Afghanistan into the largest opium exporter in the world. (You'll note that Laura Bush's visit to Afghanistan matched her husband's Thanksgiving visit to the troops in Iraq for its photo-op brevity.) And we still can't find that pesky Osama bin Laden. Remember him? So much for success.

Meanwhile at home, while Bush continues his monomaniacal obsession with dismantling Social Security and his myopic refusal to accept that global warning is real, our gluttonous oil consumption is destroying our economy, and the carbon dioxide and other pollutants, such as mercury, that we continue to spew into the air, earth, and water are literally killing us.
"

POB!= Piss On Bush!

Mike, I was wondering. Did you support the war in Afghanistan? I noticed you talked about the hunt for Bin Laden. Did you think it was right to invade Afghanistan and kill all of those innocent people that we had to kill in order to try and dimantle the Taliban and find Bin Laden? Just curious.

Nope, sure didn't and guess what? We failed there too. Missed OBJ, Tripled opium production and failed to eliminate the taliban. Woo Hoo! Rousing success story...not.

Basically, all war is wrong then, even if you are attacked.

I can't think of one war waged by a nation state that was truly just. Would I defend the united states and my family if it were attacked? Yes. It hasn't been attacked since 1812 and I'm not sure that would even be considered an attack. Don't give me that crap about pearl harbor. Roosevelt knew it was coming and let it happen in order to bring the u.s. into the war. The japanese didn't attack us they attacked our ability to project force in the far east. If it had been an attack against the american people it would have been followed up by an invasion force and occupation of the west coast. 9/11 wasn't an attack either it was a statement, a very effective statement. It's message was "leave us the fuck alone and call off your dog in palestine. We can hurt you." I'll tell you one thing for sure, If the u.s. "accidentally" dropped a 500 pound bomb on my house while they were trying to "liberate" me and in the process killed my children, you can be damn sure that I'd be looking for a RPG to take a few of you fucks out. And I'll bet if you were in the same situation you'd do the same thing. In fact, given your own admitted propensity to physical anger I know you would.
Any time you surrender the decision making power in the use of physical force to the state they are going to abuse it to suit their needs. That's why I'm against the death penalty, why I'm against war, and why I don't support a national military. History has shown us countless times that state sponsored violence has always done more harm than good.

Well said, and I don't say that just because I tend to agree with Mike's blog posts. War is wrong; it is the geopolitical equivalent of a two-year-old's temper tantrum. And as Mike points out, there is a big difference between self-defense and aggression. Lastly, anybody who accepts their national leaders' resons for war, without questioning them, is naive.
