"'Individuals, under the 21st century socialism, enjoy an absolute right of private property in their consumer goods, especially in their toothbrushes and underwear.'"
The Christmas Truce'- When Men Said No To War
"On Christmas Day, 1914, in the first year of World War I, German, British, and French soldiers disobeyed their superiors and fraternized with 'the enemy' along two-thirds of the Western Front. German troops held Christmas trees up out of the trenches with signs, 'Merry Christmas.' 'You no shoot, we no shoot.' Thousands of troops streamed across a no-man's land strewn with rotting corpses. They sang Chrismas carols, exchanged photographs of loved ones back home, shared rations, played football, even roasted some pigs. Soldiers embraced men they had been trying to kill a few short hours before. They agreed to warn each other if the top brass forced them to fire their weapons, and to aim high.
A shudder ran through the high command on either side.
Here was disaster in the making: soldiers declaring their brotherhood with
each other and refusing to fight. Generals on both sides declared this
spontaneous peacemaking to be treasonous and subject to court martial.
By March, 1915 the fraternization movement had been eradicated and the
killing machine put back in full operation. By the time of the armistice
in 1918, fifteen million would be slaughtered."
Merry Christmas everyone! And remember to give middle finger bird of peace to every general in every army in the world, in rememberance of the 75 million people killed by their decisions during two world wars.

Thomas Paine's Corner: Expanding Markets and Dying Oceans:
"It's time to wake up and smell the mythology. God has no will. God has no more of a plan than a tree has a financial portfolio. God does not say God bless you: Your life is not an eternal sneeze in need of a perpetual gesundheit. And there never was a character who rose from this sin-sullied earth and took up residence in the starry filament named Jesus Christ --who will love you no matter how big of an asshole you are: That's the job of your dog. "These standardized tests do not and could never measure the creative and innovative brain of the american student, our secret weapon.
But others around the world recognize it, including Sim Wong Hoo, founder and CEO of Singapore-based Creative Technology (Singapore has those top test scores that NCLB chomps at the bit to achieve, check out TIMSS) when asked by Newsweek about the advantages to having his business located in Singapore, he answered, 'the advantage is we come from a very conscientious culture. You tell our people what to do, they'll follow the rules, they'll do it. The downside is they are not as creative. We fixed that by having a U.S.-based R&D team that's doing more advanced research.'
The United States is responsible for most of the creative technological advances we have seen last week, last year and the past 40 years (like the core innovations that spurred on the global digital revolution). Foreign brains in the US you say?? according to the US Department of Labor in 2004 only 9% of the professions related to science and technology were foreign-born. It shouldn't come as a surprise to learn that China is working toward a school system with more choices and flexibilty for its students, just like we have had since the 60's, please stop talking about the broken education system here."

Letting Citizens Make Legislation | NewAssignment.Net
"Citizens using the Internet to monitor their representatives and the legislation that they draft is nothing novel. But a new Sunlight Foundation project aimed at allowing citizen legislatures to collaboratively script their own legislation, challenging what representative democracy means, certainly is.
Past elections have proven that a candidate's willingness and ability to engage online communities can mean the difference between winning and losing an election. But with this project, The Sunlight Foundation, a funder of NewAssignment.Net, suggests that governance, not just election outcomes, can be changed as well.
Using the model of moreperfect.org, organizers have set up a wiki and divided the research project into four categories: identifying relevant, already-proposed legislation, gathering information and vetting news article about the legislation, suggesting legislative language or rules and suggesting amendments to existing bills.
"If this is a success, and we draft proposable legislation in this area, we can use this experiment to show lawmakers how they might do the same in the future share principles with their constituents, and work with them, instead of in secret, to turn those principals into laws" writes Zephyr Teachout, the Sunlight Foundation's national director."

Craigslist Meets the Capitalists
"Wendy Davis of MediaPost describes the presentation as a " culture clash of near-epic proportions." She recounts how UBS analyst Ben Schachter wanted to know how Craigslist plans to maximize revenue. "It doesn't," Mr. Buckmaster replied (perhaps wondering how Mr. Schachter could possibly not already know this). "That definitely is not part of the equation," he said, according to MediaPost. "It's not part of the goal."
"I think a lot of people are catching their breath right now," Mr. Schachter said in response.
Larry Dignan, writing on Between the Lines blog at ZDNet, called Mr. Buckmaster “delightfully communist,”
and described the audience as“confused capitalists wondering how a company can exist without the urge to maximize profits.”
I must have been a good boy this year 'cause I got an early christmas present!

Tin Hat Theories about Tiny Little Nukes
I read an article a couple of months ago by one of those nut jobs that think that 9/11 wasn't the work of A' rabs that hated us for our "freedoms". This whacko had definitely drunk way too much commie-islamofascist koolaid. His theory? That a small thermonuclear explosion had been used to obliterate the steel cores at the center of WTC 1&2!!!
Somebody take this whacko out in the parking lot and shoot him like the raving mad dog that he is!
A SMALL THERMONUCLEAR DEVICE !?!
What a crock! Nothing like that could ever exist much less be used without us finding out about it.
So I'm reading a cool hack mag called MAKE and there is this article where some commie allah lovin' gay marriage, gun control and probably PACIFIST!!! traitor is sayin' that nuclear physicists like to make big boom booms. Well DUH!!! If I was smart enough to make nukes that could kill all the people that Bill O'reilly hates and said bombs made a hell of boom I'd do it! Damn tootin'!
Well anyway there was some crap in there about shootin' space craft across the universe with nuclear explosions and how.... well I'll telll you, it was crap in the high degree.
So I decided to write an email to one of the worst of the worst of these conspiracy nut cases ( St. Rush of the Oxycontin Martyrs protect me) Douglas Herman. Here it is:
Doug, I recently read an article in Make: magazine volume 7 by George Dyson titled, Strange Love, Or how they learned to start worrying and love to hate the bomb. Dyson's father is a physicist who worked on the Orion Project, the project exploring the use of Nuclear Explosions to power space ships.(Freeman Dyson). George writes of interviewing physicists that were involved in the project and in particular the project leader Theodore B. Taylor. Basically the article explored physicist's love of making thing go boom in a big way.
What caught my eye and kept me awake that night was Taylor's words about the use of very small amounts of plutonium and large amounts of high explosives to create non standard bombs, explosions that would "...absorb the neutrons and act as a shielding for the ship." He even wrote a warning in a paper titled Notes on Criminal or Terrorist Uses of Nuclear Explosives, " The group could be an extremist group of U.S. citizens who believe they are trying to save the U.S." He goes on to state "These were all very non standard bombs, which meant nobody believed us: the numbers clearly didn't add up. This is also a very interesting question from the point of view of the terrorist bomb problem. If you have a bunch of people wanting to blow up the World Trade Center, or something, they might have no difficulty getting large amounts of high explosive, so it's important not to declassify all that stuff. (emphasis added). Dyson interviewed Taylor EIGHT YEARS AGO!
I really didn’t know who else to pass this on to. So because you are a fellow Alaskan and publicize your Emil address I picked you. I really like your writing although I haven’t picked up a copy of your book yet. I also guess if I’m not already on somebody's watch list I’ve included enough keywords in this missive that the carnivore will definitely smell blood.
Sincerely,
So ther ya' go
A small nuke is just highly classified crap that could never exist.

An outsider comes up with the solution to our electoral problems in the U.S. It's a sublimely simple test of who is really qualified to lead our country!

Joe Bageant: Pissing in the liberal punch bowl again
"...right now the Democrats over here are dancing around the head of Donald Rumsfeld like a scene from Lord of the Flies. And every other Yankee liberal north of Virginia seems to think they are shitting in the tall cotton now, and all they gotta do from here on out is foist Hillary Clinton on the rest of us poor miserable bastards unfortunate enough to be called Democrats because we don't have the balls to become heavily armed libertarians."

Voting In The Absence Of Choice
Voting In The Absence Of Choice:
"Corporate money so owns the political process that voters are left to choose only between the finer nuances of the capital system, and between degrees of corruption. Ultimately the choice is between lesser evils, which speak volumes about the state of decay of American politics. Good never springs from evil, so we witness the steady moral decline of a nation mired in corruption and confusion.
There is nothing benign about corporate financiers who hedge their bets by supporting candidates of the major parties. Corporate CEOs are not philanthropists interested in the well being of America. They are motivated by greed and profits, and when they finance political campaigns, make no mistake about it; they are renting or buying politicians who will help them achieve their objectives.
Special interest money is a malignancy that grows in the bowels of government, and it must be removed lest it kill the host."

Education Quotes and Proverbs
Education Quotes and Proverbs:
"T.H. White, 'The Once and Future King'
The best thing for being sad,' replied Merlin, beginning to puff and blow, 'is to learn something. That's the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the only thing for you. Look what a lot of things there are to learn.'"

Quotes for the weekend
:
"No one has yet realized the wealth of sympathy, the kindness and generosity hidden in the soul of a child. The effort of every true education should be to unlock that treasure.
Emma Goldman
Instead of seeing these children for the blessings that they are, we are measuring them only by the standard of whether they will be future deficits or assets for our nation's competitive needs.
“we do not have the things you have ... Can you help us?”
Jonathan Kozol
I went to a lecture by Jonathan Kozol last night, the soul shines with beautiful clarity within the actions and words of Jonathan and Emma.

(DV) Rockstroh: Selling Satan -- Iraqi War Dead and the Collateral Damage to America's Soul
"We Americans have numbed ourselves in order to be able to live with our complicity in the crimes of empire. We have carpet bombed our rational minds into oblivion by the belief in chimeras such as "smart bombs." Reason tells us a truly smart bomb would be able to distinguish the innocent from the guilty. Therefore, for a smart bomb to exist, it would have to be a Frankenstein Monster Bomb, because, in order to exterminate the truly guilty, it would first have to kill its creators. Then it would go after the soulless bastards who ordered its use. Accordingly, smart bombs would be flying into Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld's front doors as thick and fast as moths toward a glowing porch light on a warm summer night.
Only a society of numbed-out, reality-adverse imbeciles could believe in the existence of smart bombs. In a related matter, recent public opinion surveys have revealed close to seventy percent of the population of the United States does not believe in the Theory of Evolution, yet believes that a mythological character called Satan is a literal entity."
It's easy to believe in Satan when you see pictures of Dick Cheney...Scary!!!

Narco News: A Call from the Zapatistas: Oaxaca Is Not Alone
Narco News: A Call from the Zapatistas: Oaxaca Is Not Alone:
"Oaxaca's people are resisting. Not one single honest person can remain quiet and unmoved while the entire society, of which the majority are indigenous, is murdered, beaten and jailed.
We, the Zapatistas, will not be silent; we will mobilize to support our brothers, sisters and comrades in Oaxaca.
The EZLN's Sixth Commission has already consulted the Zapatista leadership and the following has been decided:
First: During whole day of November 1, 2006, the major and minor roads that cross Zapatistas territories in the southwestern state of Chiapas will be closed.
Consequently, we ask that everyone avoid traveling by these roads in Chiapas on this day and that one make the necessary arrangements in order to do so.
Second: through the Sixth Commission, the EZLN has begun making contact and consulting other political and social organizations, groups, collectives and individuals in the Other Campaign, in order to coordinate joint solidarity actions across Mexico, leading to a nationwide shut-down on the 20th of November, 2006.
Third: the EZLN calls out to the Other Campaign in Mexico and north of the Rio Grande, so that these November 1st mobilizations happen wherever possible, completely, partially, at intervals or symbolically shutting down the major artery roads, streets, toll booths, stations, airports and commercial media.
Fourth: The central message that the Zapatistas send and will continue sending is that the people of Oaxaca are not alone: They are not alone!
Ulises Ruiz out of Oaxaca!
Immediate withdrawal of the occupying federal forces from Oaxaca!
Immediate and unconditional freedom for all detainees!
Cancel all arrest warrants!
Punish the murderers!
Justice!
Freedom!
Democracy!
From the North of Mexico.

Hell Awaits, America :
"PRIDE (SUPERBIA): Considered by many to be the most grievous of the Seven Deadly Sins, pride was the impetus for Lucifer's fall. Before their umbilical cord is even severed those born as citizens of the American Empire begin receiving a barrage of assurances from the media matrix that theirs is an exceptionally superior nation.Brimming with hubris and a pathological nationalism, those who have internalized the Big Lie wave their blood-drenched flags in open support of fire bombings, nuclear assaults, the installation and support of ruthless dictators, neocolonialism, and brutal invasions of tiny and vulnerable nations. Enmeshed in the protective cocoon of the Empire, we are imbued with the warped psychological capacity to pursue our narcissistic fantasies while callously disregarding the misery we are inflicting upon other human beings. Many US Americans regard hubris and narcissism as their natural rights. And they exercise these 'rights' with the zeal of a jonesing crack addict hustling for their next fix."

Screaming is a Waste of Breath
"When I have considered the enormity of the white man's crimes ... I think in perfect harmony—with my sister of long ago: Let the earth marinate in poisons. Let the bombs cover the ground like rain. For nothing short of total destruction will ever teach them anything."
-Alice Walker, on Zora Neale Hurston, 1976
I'm pretty much convinced that this is the only way that most " Red, White and Blue uhmuricans, will ever "get" it.
sub note, Is the above attiltude a manifestation of my upbringing as a southern baptist or what?

(DV) Frank: Bye, Bye Civil Liberties -- Blame the Democrats
:
"In the wake of September 11, it wasn't surprising that Clinton's successor George W. Bush legislated additional infringements upon civil liberties in the name of patriotism and national security. And yes, the Democrats overwhelmingly supported the Patriot Act in both of its awful versions. But it wasn't the Patriot Act that allowed the federal government to make those sweeping detentions across the country immediately following 9/11-- it was Clinton's Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty bill.
So, who is honestly supposed to believe that ushering the Democrats back into office in November will bring any sort of legitimate change -- in Iraq, or back at home?"

Note to the American people: Here's a sure-fire way to save a major American metropolitan area from an "even chance" of nuclear annihiliation in the next ten years: let's take our soldiers, bases, guns, ships, helicopters, jets, and other expansionist and racist weaponry out of the Islamic World and stop interacting with the Middle East and the rest of the human community through imperial eyes.

"It's time for all of us to focus on that deep chasm we have allowed to open between the wealthiest Americans and the middle class and those who aspire to it.Otherwise, there will be 250 million casualties in what has become nothing less than class warfare."
Will the IDIOTS!!! please wake up and identify the real terrorists in the world? They are the out of control predatory capitalistic policies and the corporations that use them to crush us.

"School Assembly: The Hidden Curriculum
Our school was recently visited by Charlie.Charlie is what is known as a "motivational speaker," which means his intention is to stimulate an interest in, or enthusiasm to do something.Charlie introduced himself to the students as "Secret Agent Man Charlie" He told the children that he owed his success to having been a U.S. Navy Seal. Charlie added that there wasn't very much he could say about the Seals, as everything is highly secretive due to their elite status. Instead, Charlie substantiated his claims with a demonstration of his amazing abilities.Charlie demonstrated different versions of military style push-ups: Army (traditional); Marine (one-armed); Coast Guard (knees touching the floor); and Seal (from a hand-stand position). The children took notice."
"...It turns out that Secret Agent Man Charlie works for the National Character Education Foundation based out of Pennsylvania. The NCEF website is quite impressive. They certainly espouse their dedication for developing “character education.” Their homepage proclaims a declaration for a “Fourteen Year Initiative.” The list of the NCEF’s partners amounts to eighteen different sponsors; half of which are U.S. congressmen, senators, and representatives.
A search on the web reveals many similarities between them. Every single one of them is a staunch Republican. Most of them are from Pennsylvania, and many receive a 100% rating of endorsement from the Pennsylvania Christian Coalition.
I wonder how many of them are "into" young male pages... pun intended.

Philip Slater: Why America's First Major Terrorist Attack is Forgotten, and what it Shows us
:
"Americans need to wake up to the fact that right-wing Republicans don't believe in democracy and never have. They have always admired military dictatorships and seem to be working hard to set up the equivalent here in the United States. Their goal is to create an authoritarian government, with control of the media and the judiciary; to weaken all restraints on executive power and eliminate democratic freedoms; to undermine the public education system through fiscal starvation and rote learning, so that the poor will learn only enough to follow orders; and to create the kind of economic inequality so many Third World countries enjoy--by filling the pockets of a tiny group of extremely rich individuals and impoverishing the rest, thereby providing a mass of cheap labor. This policy began under Ronald Reagan and has made huge leaps under the Bush regime. We don't have too much further to go to achieve this right-wing 'ideal'."
Pretty much says it all doesn't it boys and girls?

Who benefits from the Afghan Opium Trade?:
"Based on 2003 figures, drug trafficking, constitutes 'the third biggest global commodity in cash terms after oil and the arms trade.' (The Independent, 29 February 2004)."
..."Afghanistan and Colombia are the largest drug producing economies in the world, which feed a flourishing criminal economy. These countries are heavily militarized. The drug trade is protected. Amply documented the CIA has played a central role in the development of both the Latin American and Asian drug triangles."
...hmmm, daddy was was head of the CIA. It's said junior might have had something to do with south america during his "missing" time in the guard. Both of them are heavily involved in the oil business and all of daddy and junior's friends are heavily involved in arms trading. ( and use ) so.... is there a pattern here or am I just another tin hat wearing conspiracy theorist?
Ah well I think I'll just stick my head back in the sand, just like most of the rest of america, so I can give the repukes ample access to my nether regions. Have at it boys!!!!

Joe Bageant: Adam Smith Meets Cousin Ronnie's Boy:
"Regardless of media-manufactured underclass hallucinations as to class, only one class is paying half a week's wages or more for a single doctor visit to a member of the other class. Only one class is counting on Social Security for its entire retirement income (at least 64% of Americans and rising, by last count.) Yeah, yeah, more than half of Americans are invested in the stock market through 401Ks etc. we are told. But only at a few thousand dollars per household. When it comes to the much-ballyhooed stock market, 10 % of Americans split the national hog between themselves, tossing the ears to the other 90%. At this point bona fide pinkos may be excused from reading the next paragraph. You've heard it a million times, but I just can't help myself, comrade.
Cometh the old familiar numbers so oft heard, but worth repeating in hope that their meaning may by mysterious courses known only to God, take spark in the football besotted minds of my fellow underclass mutts: The richest 10 percent of families own a little over 85% of all outstanding stocks, 87% of all financial securities, and 90% of all business assets. If you throw in assets such as homes, checking and savings accounts, CDs and money funds, and pension accounts, then 20% of Americans own 83% of all wealth. The bottom 20% have no assets, no net worth at all. Put simply, the top 20% eat the cake, the middle 60% eat the crumbs and the bottom 20% get to lick the plates while they do everyone else's dishes.
Most true liberals know these numbers by heart. So do conservatives, although conservatives these days seem to take perverse glee in them. They usually explain them in terms such as those of Michael Medford, who cherry picks Will and Ariel Durant's pop history books for gems like: 'Concentration of wealth is a natural result of concentration of ability and special attributes [one immediately thinks of George Bush and Paris Hilton] … "

Thus, denial and distraction are what those sponsorships from Hewlett Packard and Monsanto really buy. Or that overt sop, Marketplace, where happy jock stockbroker types Kai Ryssdal, and that hyperactive airhead in Texas (I forget his name) play pocket pool with each other over the day's market numbers, happily promoting the liberal capitalist notion that the second law of thermodynamics is false and that growth and consumption can be infinite in a world of diminishing resources."

The Blog | Eric Alterman: The American Dream vs. The Gospel of Wealth | The Huffington Post
The Blog | Eric Alterman: The American Dream vs. The Gospel of Wealth | The Huffington Post: "As the new millennium dawned in 2000, the American economy presented an extraordinary portrait of success. For the previous four years, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) had grown at an average real rate of 4.2 percent, a figure well above the 3.2 percent average for the post-World War II era. Unemployment, at 4.2 percent, was well below the postwar average. Inflation was minimal. To top it off, by the end of 2000, the federal government had produced surpluses for three consecutive years--a minor miracle, not seen since the late 1940s. From 1993 through 2000, the U.S. economy created over 23 million new jobs. The federal government was not only able to pay down trillions in accumulated debt; it had money left over to help cope with looming crises in Social Security and Medicare."

"Oversocialized leftists have long argued against negation as a tool to change the world: “Sure, you’re disrupting things,” they say, “but what’s your program?” The punk program *was* disruption. Punk codified the art of “not-niceness.” Artist Arturo Vega painted day-glo swastikas that decorated the Ramones’ apartment. He considered the paintings, “a closet Nazi detector,” exposing those who most loudly objected as repressing their own authoritarian tendencies (“I always thought that to conquer evil,” he says, “you have to make love to it”)."

The rest of us will continue being carried along by the media hologram of political lies and profitable illusions that hold it all together. Today I read a news story about how the massacre of Iraqi families in Hidatha 'traumatized' our heroes. What do you call a republic that dishes up such shit up to its citizens? What do you call the citizens who mindlessly swallow it? What do you call people who do not march in the streets and start fires in protest of a horrific regime that guts small democracies, slaughters whole families and villages abroad and rigs the ballot boxes at home? What do you call such deniers of the obvious? Of course we can safely call the latter modern Democrats, but that is another story."

"There has been a lot of regret from the right these days, and all of it takes the same positition as the author of the article cited above:
The main cause of conservatives' anger with Bush is this: He talked like a conservative to win our votes but never governed like a conservative.
Oh, please! Here's what they're saying: 'He lied to us! He lied to us! He said he loved us but now he acts like he wants to break up and... wwaahhh!'
Well, too bad conservatives, too bad, too little, too late. The problems you've caused are your responsibility, and you can't squirm your way out of it by claiming the head lemming led you astray. You own it. You knew exactly what you were voting for. You don't like the results? Guess what: conservatives put these criminal bastards into power and kept them there. Conservatives did it. Remember 2004?
A war of choice, started by America, with no end in sight, based on lies. A huge budget surplus turned in to an even greater deficit. America's reputation abroad irrevocably soiled. Hundreds of thousands dead and maimed and crippled for life. Constitutional protections and freedoms trampled underfoot. Insults to our environment, to our very lives. Yes, these problems are conservatives' fault, not the fault of Republican faux-conservatives or 'rinos' who are now conveniently available for accusation."

Al Gore didn't win his homestate because Tennessee is one of the most racist states in the nation and a majority of citizens who voted didn't like the fact that Gore's campaign manager was a Black woman (Donna Brazile). So quit repeating the myth about the homestate! Tennessee sucks and I wouldn't have been proud to have won it considering how bad it is. By not winning the state it showed that he wasn't attracting the racists and bigots.
I've been to Tennessee and I've seen the blatant racism, mostly against Blacks. Try visiting Memphis or Nashville(truth) sometime. The whites are mostly moronic and backward. So, again, drop the bullshit about the 'homestate.'"

We've said that we need to build a different country so that our people don't have to leave, and so those who already left have the option to come back. What they have built up there is part of us, it's as if we exported a piece of Mexico north of the Rio Grande. In our own history, it is part of our pain, but also part of the same organizing experience. They are coming together as Zapotecs, Mixtecs, Chiapanecos, because there are lots of states that are dedicated to exporting indigenous people. We want to create a different Mexico, where all the things that force people to migrate are taken into account; where we can say that there is room here, that people can come back and they don't have to leave."
So there you have it folks. The real solution to the immigration problem has been identified and put into action by a radical leftist organization in Mexico. Funny how the solution to the nightmares of the righty tighty whiteys could come from an anticapitalist movement.

Robertson: "God Says Tsunami Possible For U.S."
POSTED: 9:19 pm EDT May 17, 2006
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Rev. Pat Robertson says God has told him that storms and possibly a tsunami will hit America's coastline this year.
The founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network has told viewers of 'The 700 Club' that the revelations came to him during his annual personal prayer retreat in January.
'If I heard the Lord right about 2006, the coasts of America will be lashed by storms,' Robertson said May 8.
Don't they have rubber rooms for people like this? This guy is truly pathetic...

Starting over when Bush is gone
By Mike Whitney :
"Bush has insinuated corruption into every molecule of the body politic. The torture and violence have removed any claim of legitimacy or moral authority. The social contract has been hacked into small bits and left to feed the crows. The government is now entirely powered by hubris and brute force, the sustenance of tyranny. The American dream has ripened into a menacing delirium, teeming with torture, violence, and murder. We have become everything we profess to hate.
Perhaps, it's time to pull up the foundation blocks and give the scaffolding a good shove. Bring down the whole fetid contraption; political, media, congressional and corporate. Rattle the cages and send the denizens of the think-tanks and the right-wing foundations scampering into the streets for cover. Let the whole rotten contrivance crash to earth in a heap; there's not one part of it that's worth saving. We'll start fresh when Bush is gone.
Viva la revolution."
Oh, if only it were so...

(DV) Mickey Z: The White Washing of Muhammad Ali (tm) :
"Why should they ask me to put on a uniform and go 10,000 miles from home and drop bombs and bullets on Brown people in Vietnam while so-called Negro people in Louisville are treated like dogs and denied simple human rights? No I'm not going 10,000 miles from home to help murder and burn another poor nation simply to continue the domination of white slave masters of the darker people the world over. This is the day when such evils must come to an end. I have been warned that to take such a stand would cost me millions of dollars. But I have said it once and I will say it again. The real enemy of my people is here."
Now that corporate amerika owns the rights to the Muhammad Ali name will his words be remembered?

Scotsman.com News - International - German 'Robin Hoods' give poor a taste of the high life
Scotsman.com News - International - German 'Robin Hoods' give poor a taste of the high life:
"A GANG of anarchist Robin Hood-style thieves, who dress as superheroes and steal expensive food from exclusive restaurants and delicatessens to give to the poor, are being hunted by police in the German city of Hamburg.
The gang members seemingly take delight in injecting humour into their raids, which rely on sheer numbers and the confusion caused by their presence. After they plundered Kobe beef fillets, champagne and smoked salmon from a gourmet store on the exclusive Elbastrasse, they presented the cashier with a bouquet of flowers before making their getaway."
Police say they are concentrating their investigation on a loose collective of anarchists and malcontents called "Hamburg in Vain", to which they believe the superheroes belong. But they admit there is a certain panache and skill about their robberies.
Who says there is nothing good happening in the world today?

Bush's best moment in office? Reeling in big perch|Top News|Reuters.co.uk:
"'You know, I've experienced many great moments and it's hard to name the best,' Bush told weekly Bild am Sonntag when asked about his high point since becoming president in January 2001.'I would say the best moment of all was when I caught a 7.5 pound (3.402 kilos) perch in my lake,' he told the newspaper in an interview published on Sunday."
I have to agree with the persidunce on this one, this is the finest moment of his presidency. History will be the judge and will agree with me.

"The solution to this problem is so simple: Do the right thing. As that great economist "High" Hightower of Denison, Texas, said, "Everyone does better when everyone does better." We won't need a fence or even a border when Mexico is doing better.
It does not take great economic acumen to realize that Mexico was damaged by NAFTA, that the surge in immigration has been caused by our own selfish and stupid trade policies, which benefit few of us, also. And domestic policies, I might add. The conservatives have been preaching this Me First stuff as though life were a race to the finish and the only object is to pick up as much money as you can. It doesn't work, not even if you wind up with a lot of toys. As another noted economist said, "we are becoming a nation of private opulence and public squalor."
The vast majority of illegal immigrants would love to stay at home with their families in the land of their birth and the land of their ancestors before them if they could afford to do so. They would stay if they had jobs, or they could raise crops to feed themselves and their neighbors, but they can't. The mighty corporations spawned in the bowels of the hell of vulture capitalism have made impossible to do so.
Nafta has guaranteed a impediment free market for cheap usAmerican corn, with which the small farmer in mexico cannot compete. We've taken the ability to feed himself and his family away from him. Where else can he go to find work? There is only one direction to go...Norte.

"What the Reagan years really ushered in was the start of 'The Great Hypocrisy,' the GOP's twisting of religion to create a class of disgruntled zealots so blinded by hate they'd rush to vote into office the very thieves, liars and torturers who would not only screw them at every turn, but would decades later deliver George W. Bush to our doorstep with his Faith Based Everything."
Hate is a strong word, but not strong enough to describe the deep gut level loathing I have of anything or anyone associated with Ronnie Rayguns. I spit on his grave and throw feces at his memory... and at all of the IDIOTS!!! that worship his very sphincter!
...does that give you an idea of the depth of my feelings for the puke?

"The interesting thing is, I don't think you'll find a black intellectual who disagrees entirely with the fact that embedded in American race-relations is a profoundly immoral and potentially explosive problem. Namely, that our legal and penal systems are skewed against people of color and, more accurately, people without money."
Reminds me of the old politcal cartoon, "...Capital punishment means that them without the capital, gets the punishment."

Dennis The Peasant: The Dennis the Peasant Blogging System: Part Two
And now for something completely different
"Myth Number 2:
Blog readers are thoughtful.
No, they aren't that's why they are at your blog in the first place.
If fact, neither are bloggers. That's why you are blogging in the first place.
You are not now, nor have you been, nor will you ever be, a thinker of great thoughts. People don't stop you at the water cooler and ask you to explain Iraq, the environment or the economy. You do not Chair the Philosophy Department at the University of Wallamaloo. Or anywhere else, for that matter. Nor would you be mistaken for the Chair of the Philosophy Department of the University of Wallamaloo. Or anywhere else, for that matter.
And it's important to understand that if you were the Chairman of a Philosophy Department, every one of your readers would be somewhere else, reading someone else's blog.
Always remember these facts:
1. People who are truly thoughtful take the time and expend the energy to read books.
2. Serious books.
3. Serious books on serious subjects by learned authors.
4. People who aren't, take in a couple of posts at their favorite blog while the boss is at lunch.
Your audience, in all probability, got through college (if at all) on Cliff's Notes. They are busy people. They have wives to avoid, children to ignore and bars to visit. They don't have time to read 500 pages about the History of the Middle East. They want it in 500 words. 500 small words."

IRC Americas Program | An Uprising Against the Inevitable
IRC Americas Program | An Uprising Against the Inevitable :
" 'The inevitable' has a name today: fragmented globalization, the end of history, the omnipresence and omnipotence of money, the substitution of politics for police, the present as the only possible future, rationalization of social inequality, justification of super-exploitation of human beings and natural resources, racism, intolerance, war."
- Subcomandante Marcos"
The need to spread power, the Foucault vision, and the chameleon-like nature of power in modern life are basic themes of most currents of feminism. Early feminist critiques of hierarchical power also focused on empowerment rather than taking control of centralized power. To rule by obeying and empowerment imply a profound reconstruction of power, both its content and its distribution. In this sense, women and Indian peoples share the experience of being the “other” usually located outside the realm of power. From there, or rather from a multitude of ‘theres,' they construct a vision out of resistance; a rejection of the formal structures of domination but also of a hegemonic way of thinking and formulating the world that subordinates or represses all other ways. It follows that to build a deep democracy, the power of the state must fundamentally change and not just change hands.
The Zapatista concept of democracy, like the indigenous concept seen in other countries of Latin America, challenges the liberal formulation by positing the central role of difference in society. It does not view citizens as indistinguishable cogs in a democratic machine, each with an identical function that corresponds to the exercise of individual rights—mainly voting to delegate representation. Rather it sees the “others”, marginalized for diverse reasons by the economic system, as the building blocks of a new world. These new social actors are not defined exclusively by their relationship to the means of production nor by an immutable identity politics; “the other” posits a new way of affirming identity without congealing it. Ideally all this comes together at some point much as the magazine RebeldÃa describes the Zapatista Other Campaign: “…many collective actors begin to recognize each other as ‘others' and begin to imagine what it would mean to be part of a political project that didn't try to homogenize or hegemonize.” Imagining, according to the Zapatista philosophy, is half the battle.
This critique of power then goes beyond the nation-state and runs as deep as the human psyche and as broad as the entire architecture of global society. As such, it becomes clear that neither a revolutionary vanguard nor an elected government can confront a challenge of this magnitude. Both inevitably wind up reproducing the structures of domination, albeit with different names or appearances. For the Zapatistas, the only solution is to build from the ground up something that will be defined along the way.

"Robert Kuttner recently argued in the Boston Globe that while people are blaming undocumented workers for driving down wages, the real villains are 'the people running the government, who have made sure that the lion's share of the productivity gains go to the richest 1 percent of Americans. With different tax, labor, health and housing policies, native-born workers and immigrants alike could get a fairer share of our productive economy...
' Kuttner points to Census data showing that 'median household income fell 3.8 percent, or $1,700, from 1999 to 2004... during a period when average productivity rose 3 percent per year.' And as income is falling, working people are increasingly squeezed. Costs for housing, healthcare, education and childcare rose 46 percent between 1991 and 2002, according to economist Jared Bernstein of the Economic Policy Institute."

"For more than four hours, Delegate Zero listened to the people in Tlalnepantla, “people of beautiful words” who are descended from the Aztecs, speak about their experiences as cooperativists, organizers of neighborhoods that live in extreme poverty, and defenders of the land, such as those that presented the struggle of the farmers of Comalco, a community affected by the new “21st Century Highway” being built.
The Comalco farmers accuse local agrarian authorities of “negotiating the sale, for 23 pesos ($2) per meter, of these lands without taking the farmers into account… We are firm in our opposition to selling our land to these thieves. The price they offer is an insult to the blood our mothers and fathers shed. Our land is not for sale and has no price.”"

So long as we patiently wait for elections, in which we can chose between dueling oligarchs, and in which our votes can be manipulated by machines provided by the largest contributor to the party in power, we are not taking action. So long as we're willing to choose the lesser of evils, rather than fighting for the greater good, we are not governing ourselves. "So the U.S. government wants to scan our e-mail, blogs & websites for “our own protection?” I say let’s give them something good to read! Let’s overload their systems.
I think every e-mail that is sent, every website and every blog should include a sentence or two that will trigger an alert. We should never say (or do) anything threatening but we should say things that can be misinterpreted by a computer. Add a trick line to every e-mail. Make it your signature. Here are some examples:
* My garden is so overcrowded that I think we will have to kill a bush or two this weekend to make room for our veggies.
* We are way behind in our paperwork but my staff is planning to attack this problem immediately.
* We were going to get married in a civil ceremony but my spouse is planning to have a mass. She wants the altar boys to wear black capes. They will look like a murder of crows!
At the end of your trick sentence you can include the phrase: “How are you doing Big Brother? Nice to see you.”"

(DV) Haeder: This Land is Their Land, and We Are the Illegal Aliens
(DV) Haeder: This Land is Their Land, and We Are the Illegal Aliens :
"I wonder what these modern-day Nazis would say about those children's cartoons -- images of bodies floating in rivers. Blood-soaked church walls. Military men with their M-16s trained on men while others were in their rape hunch. Beautiful jungle birds flying in the sky next to US-paid-for helicopter gun ships spraying the corn fields below. Dead mommies cradling dead babies.
Yeah, I'm an illegal alien. We all are illegal aliens, under the laws of these creeps in high office. Humanity and caring and simple benedictions for suffering so much, those are alien traits only held by a minority in this country of exclusion. Yeah, those creeps on hate-radio and in the newspaper columns and on Capitol Hill, sure, they recognize all of us who see the lies and fight the injustice as aliens."

AxisofLogic/ Antiwar Movement:
"...the nature of the political system that has long ruled this country must be examined. At a time when decentralizing forces are bringing about the collapse of vertically-structured institutional systems; and when horizontal networks of spontaneous and autonomous order are emerging, the corpse of constitutional government needs to be laid to rest.'"
I'm going to repeat the author's statement again for emphasis.
"...the corpse of constitutional government needs to be laid to rest."
It's time we quit hiding our heads in the sand while thinking that the constitution will protect us. The A*#holes on both sides of the aisle have shown us their utter contempt for the constitution, and our persidunce even refers to it as a "...goddamn piece of paper." We have to change the system by turning it on its head. The power of the government lies in its people. We are the government not them.

(DV) Zingh: Dear George . . . Have I Told You How Much I Appreciate You? :
"You, George, seem to have the innate ability to disillusion oh so many millions of people with our hollow economic, political and social orders so that, more than any progressive, more than any liberal, more than any revolutionary, you could actually kick out the psychic props that hold up the whole rotten edifice. Thus are you most frightening to those who desperately want to paint the smiley face back on capitalism, who want to re-clothe the iron military fist in silken gloves of "diplomacy" and who want to restore the myth that America is somehow better than everyone else. You, George, have not even bothered with the niceties of gloving your bloody hands in silk. You have not trifled with the diplomacy of manners or the perfume of noble causes. Yours is the face of raw, naked power. You have dropped the mask, George, and the face you show us is not the one that our Owners and Leaders want us to see."
I have to add my thanks too... and the prayer to whatever god might be listening that it won't take something even worse than geeboy to wake up a critical mass of americanos to the lies of the elite.

Hey Michael Savage! Here's One For Your "Red Diaper Doper Baby" Bushit!
I personally liked the term Red Diaper Doper Baby as it did a pretty good job of describing me. I have however found a term that describes the repukes so much better. Henceforth right wing neocon fundie jackoffs that have ruined this country (not to mention Iraq} shall be known as...

Anti-war Stance Is Right, Not Left
Anti-war Stance Is Right, Not Left
:
"Unlike the left, we recognize that the president's powers as commander-in-chief are limited, as well they should be. Under our system of government, we have a president entrusted with certain specified powers; we do not have an elected dictator or a king. As Alexander Hamilton explained in The Federalist Papers (No. 69), the president's authority as commander-in-chief amounts "to nothing more than the supreme command and direction of the military and naval forces, as first general and admiral ... while that of the British king extends to the declaring of war and to the raising and regulating of fleets and armies-all which, by the Constitution under consideration, would appertain to the legislature."
Wow the big brave righties over at Free Republic jerked my posting privileges right after I posted on this article. I must've really got their whitey tighties in a real wad. What a hoot!

Against the War? Read This!!!
Kunstler's Speech in Providence December 5 05:
"I don't think you can be against the war as passionately as you are, and not also be against the way we live in this country. After all, we have more control over how we behave here than how other people behave in their nations. It's not enough to just be against the war. There's the lady - now famous lady - in my town who drives the Ford Explorer with the bumper sticker that says 'War is Not the Answer.' I keep telling her that war is the answer for her. If we want to keep living the easy motoring life, with the economy based on building evermore suburban sprawl, then war will be the answer - and we all ought to stop complaining about it."
This guy's writing is right on, and as truthful writing often is, painful to read.

Shouting in the Dark: Notes While Traveling at the Speed of Thought: "
If you were to run such a figure through the function machine created here for comparative purposes, you'd find that if we started paying off the national debt...right now...at the rate of one dollar per second... and we didn't spend another penny in the process...well, we could pay off the national debt in approximately 260,000 years. Our national debt equals the number of seconds in roughly 260,000 years!"

Mass Media:
"The new general manager, Dave Boylan, explained that if we didn’t agree to changes that Monsanto and Fox lawyers were insisting upon, we’d be fired for insubordination within 48 hours. We pleaded with Dave to look at the facts we’d uncovered, many of which conclusively disproved Monsanto’s claims. We reminded him of the importance of the facts about a basic food most of our viewers consume and feed to their children daily. His reply: “We paid $3 billion dollars for these TV stations. We’ll tell you what the news is. The news is what we say it is!” "
Fair and Balanced Bullshit for the sheeple!!!

Satan Is Resting Easy
By Jason Miller

Satan Is Resting Easy :
"To George Bush, Dick Cheney, Daniel Pipes, and their soulless war-mongering compadres, I proudly admit that I support the Palestinians (and their democratically elected Hamas leaders) in their struggle against their brutal Israeli oppressors. In fact, consider me a member of the so-called Fifth Column identified by Pipes. I abhor virtually all of the foreign and domestic policies the Machiavellian disciples of Strauss have implemented through wielding their ill-gotten power and influence.
However, the United States is as much my country as it is theirs. I fully intend to remain here and work persistently against them by continuing to tenaciously pursue human rights and social justice for humanity, not simply for a select few in the United States and Israel.
Quoting the eloquent and infamous words of the incredibly articulate Mr. Cheney, I say, 'Fuck you!' to their malignant cabal. While this nefarious faction and its loyalists may consider me a traitor, I refuse to pledge allegiance to a pack of criminals who have hijacked the government of the people of the United States. If it is treason to dissent against corrupt thieves and murderers who have shredded our sacred Constitution, I stand guilty as charged."
I too claim membership in the "Fifth Column." See ya'll in gitmo!!! And as Joe Bageant would say, "Solidarity!"

The Most Powerful Weapon In The World
The Most Powerful Weapon In The World: "The Most Powerful Weapon In The World
Strategic Communication Laboratories and the war for your mind
Steve Watson / Infowars | March 8 2006
In a world where the perception is the reality, all countries need to have the capability to manage their own perceptual alignment – otherwise someone else will. We live in a global village, which is reliant on communication and perception. Every country needs the tools to be part of that game.
A direct quote from the website of Strategic Communication Laboratories, a London based company that offers 'the most powerful weapon in the world', the ability to manage every aspect of a conflict from one operation centre.
Take a look around their website and witness sickening quote after quote explaining how their vision is to allow the total control of citizens by their government or their military, to keep it that way, and to facilitate conflicts with and the takeover of other countries and the execution of total control over their citizens.
The idea put across by SCL is that if you can control the perceptions people have of reality, then you can control reality itself.
As the world moves further away from the 20th century concept of the Cold War, it becomes increasingly clear that the very nature of warfare itself has changed. The old style conflicts were about overpowering the enemy and winning ground. The new wars are about ideas, belief systems and ideologies. The battle is no longer about winning territory; it is about winning minds."

Gallup: More Than Half of Americans Reject Evolution, Back Bible
: "Gallup: More Than Half of Americans Reject Evolution, Back Bible
By
E&P Staff
Published: March 08, 2006 10:15 AM ET
NEW YORK A Gallup report released today reveals that more than half of all Americans, rejecting evolution theory and scientific evidence, agree with the statement, 'God created man exactly how Bible describes it.'
Another 31% says that man did evolve, but 'God guided.' Only 12% back evolution and say 'God had no part.'
Gallup summarized it this way: 'Surveys repeatedly show that a substantial portion of Americans do not believe that the theory of evolution best explains where life came from.' They are 'not so quick to agree with the preponderance of scientific evidence.' "
Although I believe that this is proof positive that more than half of usamericans are brain dead IDIOTS!!!, it could be argued that there is no such thing as evolution and these bone heads are proof. Hmm...

Coast Guard exposes holes in Dubai deal: "'There are many intelligence gaps, concerning the potential for DPW or P&O assets to support terrorist operations, that precludes an overall threat assessment' of the potential merger, an unclassified Coast Guard intelligence assessment said.
'The breadth of the intelligence gaps also infer potential unknown threats against a large number of potential vulnerabilities,' said the half-page assessment. Officials said it was an unclassified excerpt from a larger document."

Viet Dinh Vs Paul Craig Roberts:
"Destroying America does not mean blowing up buildings. It means destroying the US Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the separation of powers. Al Qaeda is powerless to bring about such destruction. Only our own government, enabled by the public's
and Viet Dinh's and Attorney General Gonzales' endorsements of the Fuhrer Principle can destroy America."

Truthdig - Reports - A Coverup Under Two Presidents: The Unsolved Mystery of the Oklahoma City Bombing
Truthdig - Reports - A Coverup Under Two Presidents: The Unsolved Mystery of the Oklahoma City Bombing:
"The full lessons from all this remain to be learned, in part because we are very far from getting to the bottom of the mystery. But it's clear that the intelligence failures and institutional coverups we have seen in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks and the Iraq war are part of a historical pattern. The FBI, in common with other federal agencies, is interested in defending its own bureaucratic interests first and establishing the truth only a distant second. It is prepared to go to extraordinary lengths to avoid having to admit mistakes, even if that means allowing people suspected of posing a significant threat to public safety to go free.
Dennis Mahon, who is banned from travel to Britain and other countries because of his political activities, has never been seriously troubled by the Oklahoma City bomb investigators. Andreas Strassmeir was allowed to leave the United States and return to Germany in early 1996 even though it was clear at the time that he had had contact with McVeigh immediately before the bombing and might, at the very least, have made an important witness. Several of the ARA bank robbers, meanwhile, have completed their sentences and are now free."
Time to dig the tin hat out boys and girls! Actual footage of two people getting out of the Ryder truck before the bombing. And guess what? Terry Nichols wasn't either one. Let's see, McVeigh dead, Nichols in prison for life, and the third person? The third person and most likely others that were involved are still out there... Makes ya feel real secure doesn't it?

Bush's military budget costs us our future
Bush's military budget costs us our future:
"It's absurd that Washington will put $11 billion into a dog like the Crusader, but won't spend $2 billion to fund Head Start for every child. It' an embarrassment that they will sink another $9.3 billion next year into the vast vacuousness of Star Wars, but won't invest $1 billion a year for the next 10 years in the renovation of all of America's crumbling schools. It's criminal that they keep giving billions in insider deals to weapons contractors who's $13 billion of the previous funds they got, but Washington won't allocate $6 billion to provide health coverage for every uninsured child."
My theory is that the right wing "christians" would much rather see money given to merchants of death than see a "colored" child get something that they didn't earn by polishing shoes on the street corner.
All you idiot lickers of the bushchild, please correct me if I'm wrong.

A Scanner Darkly
The fact that the alternative truth and enlightenment movement resonates so well in Hollywood and that it is now seen as cool and urbane can only help our efforts to reach more people.
It also puts the final nail in the coffin of belated cultural stereotyping and media bias that attempted to portray enquiring minds as backwards toothless tin-foil hat wearing conspiracy theorists.
Damn! I was just getting used to being thought of as one of the, "...backwards toothless tin-foil hat wearing conspiracy theorists."

(DV) Whitney: The Pentagon's War on the Internet :
"The enemy, of course, is you, dear reader, or anyone who refuses to accept their role as a witless cog in New World Order. Seizing the internet is a prudent way of controlling every piece of information that one experiences from cradle to grave; all necessary for an orderly police state... The War Dept. is planning to insert itself into every area of the internet from blogs to chat rooms, from leftist web sites to editorial commentary. The objective is to challenge any tidbit of information that appears on the web that may counter the official narrative: the fairytale of benign American intervention to promote democracy and human rights across the planet."
Here ya' go people, the administration that just ok'd a 385 million dollar contract to Halliburton subsidiary, KBR to build detention centers in the u.s. now has someplace to lock up us pesky bloggers that dare challange the official version of the "truth".
-mike
* Note: The Associated Press reported on 2-13-06, “The government concluded its ‘Cyber Storm’ wargame Friday, its biggest-ever exercise to test how it would respond to devastating attacks over the Internet from anti-globalization activists, underground hackers and bloggers.
“Bloggers?
“Participants confirmed parts of the worldwide simulation challenged government officials and industry executives to respond to deliberate misinformation campaigns and activist calls by Internet bloggers, online diarists whose ‘Web logs’ include political rantings and musings about current events.”
“Misinformation campaigns”? “Political rantings”? “Musings about current events”?
The administration’s resolve to foreclose on free speech has never been stronger and continues apace.

The System Is Broken Don't Try to Fix It, Leave It!!
The following articles support the conclusion I reached years ago. They also support the conclusion that many others are beginning to reach as the system stumbles down the path of eventual self destruction. Witness the recent spate of conservatives who have reached a level of disgust with the repukeagain party and have renamed themselves libertarian, or those former demods who are now greens or independents. It's the same conclusion that has been reached, if even subconsciously, by those millions of Usamericans that do not vote. I will be watching with interest the developments on the suggestions of the second author and will post here as they happen,

Albert Camus, Anarchism and the Individual:
"Camus confronts the stark reality that the individual, while preeminent in value and worth, is treated as chattel of the State. The reason that the populace allows this tragic injustice lies in their unwillingness to deal with the harsh fact that the most depraved among us strive to make regulations for the rest. The codes of society are generally adopted without scrutiny. When Camus
states: "Integrity has no need of rules", we are given an insight that few can digest. Their own lack of honesty, principle and integrity allows them to accept the madness that dominates society."
The End of Authority
So, now it’s time to call a time out and head to the sideline for a consultation. Just as anti-war movements haven’t put a dent in current or future conflicts, or the anti-poverty movements have failed to ease more inequality than is being generated, I think we should all agree that being against something is no longer tenuous. It’s time we begin to genuflect toward the future, and come to the realization that what is left of the body politic, in all but a handful of nations, is corrupted beyond reform.

It is clear that their revolution pretends neither 'to change man' nor to build 'the new man' so dear to Bolsheviks and to all communists, whose dream was transformed in nightmare from Moscow to Pyong Yang, from Beijing to Tirana, Belgrade and Bucharest. And though they declare their solidarity with the Cuban people who suffer an Usamerican embargo for more than forty years now, they keep their distance from Fidel, whom Marcos has ironically and affectionately nicknamed... Schwarzenegger!"
What if Marcos, both speaker and "organic intellectual" of the ³real men², were the Mehdi? [6] Or, at least, the sub-Mehdi? Let¹s remember to conclude that the Mehdi, contrary to what badly informed Muslims believe, is not the guide, but the well-guided, a man whose skills as a chief are based upon his aptitude to listen both to Heaven and Earth, to God and men, a man who does not take his desires as reality, a man without any thirst of power.
In short, Marcos is the opposite of Osama bin Laden. From Bin Laden emanates a sinister ghostliness, while Marcos is vivacious and real. Whereas Bin Laden, a sort of telegenic reconstitution of the Old Man of the Mountain - the mythical chief of Hashishins - is a manipulated figure, Marcos can¹t be co-opted by the imperial system, because he has his feet well planted on Chiapas' mud and draws his force from the population who controls him.
Fantastic essay on the possibility of expanding the revolution from the bottom up!

Mohammed Cartoons Prep Europe For Bush Iran Attack
Mohammed Cartoons Prep Europe For Bush Iran Attack:
"THE REAL CASUS BELLI: THE IRAN OIL BOURSE "
Much of the real urgency of the Anglo-American attack on Iran comes not from nonexistent nuclear devices, but from the planned March 20 opening of the Iran oil bourse, the first international exchange since 1945 where buyers and sellers of oil can conduct their oil transactions using a currency other than the US dollar, in this case, the euro. The Iran oil bourse threatens the number one pillar of US-UK world domination, the global hegemony of the dollar, as anchored in the dollar's central role in oil and other raw materials transactions.
With the Iranian oil bourse, as much as $1 trillion of central bank reserves may flee the US greenback into the euro, the yen, and other currencies. The concomitant exodus of hot money from Wall Street would then puncture the US stock bubble, the US housing bubble, and the US bubble economy generally, leading to a collapse of the dollar in international exchange and the dumping of hundreds of billions of dollars in US treasury bonds now in the hands of the Chinese and Japanese.
Read it and weep! They will use nukes against Iran to protect their power.

$262.00 a Barrel for Oil, maybe! | Specious Reasoning
$262.00 a Barrel for Oil, maybe! | Specious Reasoning: "Be afraid. Be very afraid.
That's the message from two of the world's most successful investors on the topic of high oil prices. One of them, Hermitage Capital's Bill Browder, has outlined six scenarios that could take oil up to a downright terrifying $262 a barrel."
Now I know why the U.S. Army is building a 12 foot high barbed wire fence all the way around the post here in Fairbanks. Bushco would shit bricks if we decided to establish the Independent Republic of Alaska ( IRA ) when the prices approach those levels!

what the hell!?!?
WOW!!! The months of thanksgiving and the birth of the christ child, and the start of a new year were rocky. I turned 48, my daughter turned 10 and a dear little girl that was the darling of our hometown swim team ( the coach's daughter) died at 20 months old, the victim of a 9mm glock. It was of course, unloaded. Died in the arms of her father. I know for a fact that every child killed by an american smart bomb creates another "insurgent" . If I could place the blame on something as simple as a smart bomb for that baby's death I'd be after the bastards that dropped it. I can't though, it was an accident, a horrible accident. I still support the right of us peons to bear arms. PLEASE DON'T BE STUPID WITH THEM THOUGH!
2 years ago in january a childhood friend and old college room mate died in Mesa Az, It took that long for the news to catch up to me. A rumor on the phone, an internet search, an obituary, short, to the point, no details. Shit... heart attack, O.D. who knows, when I can I'll fork out the cash to get his sister's # off one of those internet people searches and find out. I'll call the first woman I fell in love with, the one he married and then divorced and let her know too. So even though it's a little late here's a toast to a man who's gone, Goodbye James Dolamore,Jimmy D. here's to all the good times and all the bad. Even though it broke my heart to see you marry Heather and take her away, I loved you and her and still do. My only wish for you now is that the silence of death surrounds you forever with peace.

Novelist Searches For Truth In A Corrupt America
Novelist Searches For Truth In A Corrupt America: "'Voting for the Democratic Party is not nearly enough, as their succession of candidates lay down and play dead under the thumb of a terrorist political machines. We are keeping ourselves free by killing people around the world. Remember, evil men will do anything to gain power, riches, glory and fame.'
'There is good news. Now we know. Freedom is not slavery and daily deception does not make us free. We can truly be free only when we have the truth. These freedom fries they have been selling us have only made us sick.
'But we can get well now and live as God truly intended us to live, not under the whip of the American rich and powerful, but with the enlightened wonder of this great creation called earth.'
